If your buzz box is like my Lincoln 225, I'd limit it to 125 amps because of duty cycle, 1/8" 7018 fits nicely. Size and length of cables becomes very important as the current goes up. With a 45 chamfer on each plate for butt weld, likely 6 passes to fill, removing all slag between passes. A flat tee joint you might get away with three passes, again removing all of the slag. I run 75a for 1/8" 6011 and am running against the duty cycle all of the time, even with a high volume fan.

1/8" will do with multi-pass, but 5/32" rod will be better.

You would use the 3/32" rod to weld 1/2" cold rolled steel.

Will 7018 welding rod weld mild steel to cast iron?
Which welding rod would work best?
-
TheElderWeldor· 13 years ago
While it will hold for a very little while, it will crack. You need a rod designed for that purpose such as Certainium. Very expensive.

These rods will work on low, medium and high carbon steels. that does include mild steel. They will not work on cast iron.

The last time we ordered the 25 lb box ...the sticks didn't come in a container that can be closed or sealed when not in use. Do these come in a container? Need an answer ASAP.

They will only come in the carton that is shown. They would not come in a container that would be sealed.

The package is sold by weight only and so quantity by number cannot really be determined.
