  1. Is there a way to attach outside the hitch so that you can still use the hitch for towing?

    I have a bike rack that attaches to the outside of my tow hitch so I can still use the tow hitch to tow. The rack is falling apart so I would be interested in replacing it. I have a Class A RV and tow a car behind (4 wheels down). So I need the use of the hitch for towing. Is there a mount that could attach around the receiver bar? I have a drop down extension on the hitch so if there was a mount that would attach around the outside of the extension tube that would work well.

    3. There is an adaptor to atatch to a trailer rear bumper

    4. There are receiver extensions made with a second 2" tube above the one for the trailer ball mount. This should work OK, but I suggest you consider a receiver on the towed vehicle so you can carry the bike rack on it rather than on the RV. This would allow you to use the towed vehicle to transport the bikes locally.

  2. what size hitch is this made for? Does the product require purchase of an extension, if so, what size?

    1. 2" square receiver, I did not need an extension on either of my vehicles

    3. This rack is made for a 2' receiver hitch. There are adapters made to fit a 2" accessory to a smaller receiver but that will add cost and length to the installation. I you need additional length to clear the spare tire like I did, that might not be a bad thing.

    4. 2 inch hitch. I had to order a 12 inch extension for my 1991 pathfinder since I have a oversize spare tire mounted on the rear swing gate. Even with a regular size tire I think I would probably still need a extension. I just double checked the measurements and from the bolt hole in your hitch to the inside of the vertical pole of the rack, you have about 8 1/4 inch clearance. You are just going to have to take a measurement from you hitch hole to the farthest point of the rear of the vehicle. If you don't have at least 10 1/2 inch clearance I would order the extension. Remember, racks with bikes can sway to and fro and you might want to keep them from rubbing or banging against your vehicle with the extension.

    5. The Wel-Bilt Hitch-Mounted 4-Bike Rack can be mounted in any class III or IV hitch(2 inch square tube), and would not require an extension unless your hitch is recessed underneath the vehicle. Please see links below if you need one.

  3. What size bicycle rail will fit inside the yellow clamps? also, what size trailer hitch does the hitch fit into?

    1. its a TWO (2) inch receiver and the cross rail needs to be a standard size, My old cannondale tubes are two big so I have to improvize

    2. Pretty much any bike, just have a 2nd bike or something the same approx size in the 2nd slot to keep the top fairly flat and keep the bike safe during the travels.

    3. This bike rack features yellow clamps that will accept 1" diameter bicycle rails/tubing. This rack mounts into 2" hitch receivers.

  4. Can it fold down to access the trunk with the bikes on ?

    1. We have a SUV. The bikes folded down far enough for the hatch to swing out.

    2. It would not be recommended to lower the rack with the bikes mounted on the rack.

  5. Will this work for a ladies bike?

    It looks like you may need to add some type of bike bar to simulate a men's bike

    1. It held both a mans and ladies bike on our trip. Had to have the ladies bike on the outside and remove the seat from the mens for best result.

    2. This bike rack works best on bikes that have a straight center tube/bar like standard men's bikes. Women's or children's bikes without a straight center tube may not mount as easily. A straight tube mounting adapter to simulate men's bikes is not available for use with this rack.

  6. Can this hold a larger bike like a beach cruiser?

    1. sure but only if your hitch is high enough so the bike clears the street enough. Be careful when turning up a steep driveway

  7. This is for a 2" receiver is ther an option to order it for a 1 1/2" receiver?

    1. No, but there is an adapter for your 1 1/4" to take a 2".

    2. The Wel-Bilt Hitch-Mounted 4-Bike Rack is only available for a 2" receiver tube. Check to see if your receiver is really 1-1/4", which is a more common size. If it is, we have an adapter that will make it work with a 1-1/4" receiver tube. See link below.

  8. Is a model made to fit 1 1/4" receiver ?

    I have 1 1/4" to 2" receiver adapter. I don't want to use it, it adds length and a small amount of "play".

    1. You are correct that the adapter will add length and a small amount of "play". The length could be beneficial if you need to clear a spare tire and the "play" will likely make no difference.

  9. Will this rack clear the spare tire on a Jeep Wrangler?

    1. This hitch-mounted rack measures a distance of 5-1/4" from the hitch pin hole to the vertical support. Northern Tool recommends measuring the distance from your vehicle's hitch receiver pin hole to the outside of the spare tire to ensure the rack clears your spare.
