The spacing between the uprights when the foam is compressed is 2". When not compressed it is 1". The uprights are not removable. You can use the dolly for monitors. The maximum thickness of monitor that will fit is approximately 1.5". The monitor will need to be longer than 36" to span across the frame. It would need to be secured through the uprights on both sides.
