  1. what happens if the tines encounter a large root ?

    Will it cause the tines to break ?

    1. Usually it brings my atv to a dead stop if it hangs a big root and have to backup and move over it hasnt broke anything yet.

  2. Do tines lift?

    Does this cultivator have provision to lift tines so it can be towed to location without engaging the ground then lowered to cultivating depth? If so, how high does it lift for ground clearance and how easy is it to lift? Can this be done from tractor or ATV seat?

    1. it does but not a ton of clearance. you will have to get off to raise and lower the tines. if you have grass over 6-8" tall you will have to clear the tines a lot. Best thing is to mow, spray poison, and plow it a couple weeks later.

    2. This cultivator has a manual lever to lift the tines for transportation and when lowered will engage the ground.

  3. Does this do the same as a tiller would?

    Or would I need another tool after like discs?

    1. These plows work very well for plots. Unless you have big balls of dirt you want to break on up a chisel plow works really good.

    2. Basically does the same thing as a tiller. Turns the earth in preparation for planting seeds.

    1. Yes, I've Seen this question before. it has contact info in the install instructions don't know how easy it will be but you should.

  6. Dose it come assembled ? If not, what are the dimension of the box it is shipped in ?

    1. you will only have to install the wheel brackets, front and the tines. The tines can be a little tricky at first, but once you get the first one on it is really easy to assemble.

    2. No, this Field Tuff cultivator does not come assembled, it ships in two boxes.

      One box measures 49.6 inches long, 29.1 inches wide, and 5.5 inches high and the other measures 34.6 inches long, 22 inches wide, and 9.1 inches high.

      It takes approximately 2 hours to assemble.

  7. How many horse power = 500cc?

    1. I checked a few websites, did the recommended calculating for new 4-cycle small engines with carburetors (based upon 150cc being anywhere from 3.5 to 6 HP) and came up with around 12 - 20 HP in round figures, depending upon the engine's condition.

  8. How does this compare to a small disk harrow made for lawn tractors? Which is easier to pull?

    1. A disc harrow is designed for preparing soil for planting and controlling weeds. Best used in sandy soils. A cultivator is designed for breaking up compacted soil and removing weeds. This is best for clay soils.

    1. The 13-inch pneumatic tires on the Field Tuff 48in. ATV Tow-Behind Cultivator (Model ATV-470) are 4.10 inches wide. These tires provide stability and easy maneuverability while cultivating.
