You can hold your hand directly in front of the unit and not get burned. Touching the face of the heater wouldn't burn you but it is hot enough that you'd pull back quickly.

It won't burn to touch but if you hold your skin against it for a period of time you will eventually get burned. My trash can got pushed against it and it melted the plastic bag.

This appliance is safer to touch due to its low thermal conductivity. However, an infant or a baby should not be left unattended as prolonged contact with the surface may result in an injury.

How much does this cost to run per hour? What is the efficiency rating?
-
SPMerc· 9 years ago
All electric heaters are virtually 100% efficient. Whether you pay $100 or $19.95 for a heater, if they consume the same amount of electricity, they produce the same amount of heat. There are differences in the way that they move the heat around the room, and differences in features and appearance, but the efficiency is always the same.
This heater only uses 400 W compared to most floor heaters that use over 1000 W so it really isn't designed to heat an entire room. Rather, it is designed to put in a room that tends to be a little cooler than other rooms and raise the temperature a couple degrees.
You can look at your electric bill and determine how much a kilowatt of electricity costs you. Where I live, it's about nine cents. Nine cents times .4 kW equals 3.6 cents per hour, or approximately $.75 per day. Note that there is no thermostat on this heater. It is designed to run continuously. It does have an on off switch, so you can turn it off if you don't need the heat.

If your electric is 16 cents per Kilowatt hour (look at your electric bill) these are 400 watt so .4 kwh or about 6 cents per hour used.

Electric heaters do not offer an efficiency rating. Government agencies don’t provide electric heater ratings for the simple reason that there is nothing to rate. Electric heaters use electrical resistance to convert electrical energy to heat, and all the electricity is converted to heat, so there’s no question of one heater being more efficient than another.
Due to various cost rates by every electric company, we are unable to say what the cost per hour to run would be.

Installation location
Can this be installed in front of electrical outlet?
The picture showing this unit does not show the electrical cord so it appears as if the electrical outlet is directly behind the unit.-
DHKC· 10 years ago
I don't think it can be mounted in front of an outlet. First, it is never a good idea to permanently mount something that will block access to the outlet. Because of the way this mounts, you would not be able to access the outlet quickly. Second, this mounts less than an inch from the wall. Besides the amount of heat this puts off that close to the plastic outlet, I don't believe there would be enough space for the cord to plug in without the cord pushing against the back of the heater.

The heater comes with a 6 foot cord, with a standard 2 prong 120 volt plug. It should not be installed in front of the wall outlet.

does this come with any sort of blower to move the cold air into the heater and force warm air out
-
JK39157· 11 years ago
No blower. Cold air circulates around the ceramic plate. (hot air rises cold air falls).

Can this unit easily be connected to a thermostat? I.E. is it 'thermostat ready'?
1 answer-
ProductExpert7· 10 years ago
This Econo-Heat Wall Panel Heater can be used with a thermostat. It is recommended to contact a qualified electrician to connect a thermostat to the heater. Also, you could purchase a plug in thermostat locally for an easy option.

If I plug it into a timer, will it come on and off when I set it to?
I would like for the heater to go off for about 6 hours then come back on. If I use a timer to make it go off then back on, starting it out in the on position, will it come back on when the timer says to, in the on position?
I really need a programmable thermostat and it looks like you do not offer one. I'd really like to set it to lower the temp then come back to set temp, but my timer idea is the next best workaround, if you say it will work.

ProductExpert6· 11 years ago
The heater is not designed to be used with a timer. It has an on and off switch that would need to be manually turned on or off.

Can you use 2 or 3 of them in one room if the room is too big for one heater?
Like if my room doesnt heat as much with only one of these, can I put another one on the other side of the room or right next to the one I already have hung and get better heat results? I guess what I'm wondering is if the more units you install in a room better if one is not enough?

ProductExpert12· 12 years ago
More than one of the Econo-Heat Wall Heaters can be used in a room. They will require a few feet between each one for air circulation.
