There is a small door beneath the flame-viewing window. The door has a magnetic catch, is hinged on the left side, and is opened by pulling on the right side of the door. Open the door to access the three controls; the thermostat knob, heater on/off switch, and the artificial flame on/off switch.

The door opens from the right side, & there are two toggle switches, one for the light, & one for the heater that illuminate when they are on. The thermostat control is to the left of the toggle switches & all are hidden at the bottom when the door is closed.

how bright is the flame?
thinking of putting it in the bed room and don't want it being a distraction for sleeping
-
kandyman1950· 14 years ago
The flame is just a natural old time fireplace look not bright enough to distract your sleep .If anything it is a soothing flickering flame look !

GEMoney· 15 years ago
The flame is not really bright enough to be a distraction, unless you like a really dark room. Very romantic when all other lights are out.

This is hard to answer based on individual tolerance levels. We had no problem sleeping with it on; although the thermostat setting was pretty low for overnight use so the heater & fan weren't running much overnight. The light did not bother us in the least, but your tolerance threshhold may be lower.

does the whole unit shut down when it reachs temp then come back on when colder or does it run constantly?
-
Pghbalogna· 15 years ago
The heating unit & blower shut down when the temperature reaches the thermostat setting. The light that illuminates the "virtual" flames and "log set" stays on. When the temperature in the room drops below the thermostat setting, the heater & blower come back on. Incidentally, as blowers go, this one is relatively quiet but not silent.

The "flames" stay on all the time (unless you turn the whole unit off) and the heater portion goes on and off according to the thermostat setting you select.

Mine cycles on and off. The flame illusion stays on as long as the unit is turned on. It is a really quiet running unit. Best buy I have made in a long time

the cost to run
how much does it cost per hour to run?
-
Pghbalogna· 15 years ago
This depends on what you pay per Kilowatt hour for electricity at your location.
Helpful?

ProductExpert6· 15 years ago
The amount that running this heater will add to your electric bill will vary by the amount that you use the heater and the amount that you pay for your electricity. This heater consumes approximately 1350 watts. or 1.35 kw/hour. You can estimate the cost by multiplying 1.35 by the number of hours you estimate that the heater will be running during a given period then multiplying that quantity by the amount that your power company charges per kilowatt hour.
For example if you were to run this heater 3 hours per day for a 30 day month you would use 121.5 kilowatt hours if you were paying $0.12 per kilowatt hour it would cost you $14.58 per month or $0.48 per day.
3 x30 x 1.35 x 0.12 = $14.58Helpful?
