The Drolet Heat Commander Wood Furnace is the offspring of Drolet's winning wood stove design at an international automation challenge. It is one of the very first wood furnaces on the market to offer Dual Firecopy; technology with a 2-stage electronic combustion control. This unit allows peace of mind with a self-regulated combustion for easy ignition. The automated air supply and flame adjustment systems synchronize with the thermostat to offer additional safety, optimize comfort and reduce emissions for minimal maintenance. This well-thought-out central heating system surpasses all others in Drolet's line-up, not only with its ease of use and intuitive air distribution plenum, but also with its EPA emissions rating of 0.095-lb./mm BTU.   1. What type of chimney do I need ?

    1. Actually, the manual states that this can be used with a masonry chimney with a round clay liner of 6".

    2. This heater uses a 6 inch vent pipe. If installing in an existing chimney then a 6 inch stainless steel liner would need to be installed.

  2. What size fire brick, how thick and a they on the firebox floor or just a ash grate? How far do they extend up the firebox. I had a Clayton many years ago and it was the bomb at have the price. Does it have any kind of thermostat to adjust the intake air.

    1. The fire brick it 4.5" W x 9" L x 1.25" thick. The fire brick is only in the lower portion of the firebox, extending up to the level of the secondary air tubes (about 8-9"). The furnace is equipped with an automated combustion control system that would connect to a standard wall thermostat.

  3. Can the plenum be raised to reach with in 6” of ceiling of a typical interior height of 8’ or 8’6”? Or should it be lifted on to a hearth to achieve the correct height?

    1. The plenum can typically be extended to reach within 6" of an 8' or 8'6" ceiling. Raising the unit on a hearth is not necessary unless you need to accommodate a specific ductwork for safety requirements. You must follow all clearance specifications in the manual for both the unit and ductwork.

  4. Does this have ship with the blower box on the rear with a place for a filter?

    1. An optional air return system can be connected to the blower housing to improve air circulation. The optional fresh air adapter is model AC01392. Optional air filters are model AC01390 and AC01391. Parts can be purchased through the manufacturer directly.

  5. I have a cellar that has a ceiling height of 6.5 feet would i be able to install this unit there?

    1. The minimum clearance between the top of the plenum and the ceiling is 5".

    1. The wood furnace would have a 6" exhaust collar.

  8. Can the 6” flue be adapted to a existing 8” flue without causing problems?

    1. It is not recommended to install an 8’’ chimney with this wood furnace, as this may affect its efficiency and operation.

  9. Can this be converted to burn wood pellets?

    1. The furnace has been designed to be used with recommended 16" firewood logs. Any deviation from fuel source may void the warranty.
