  1. Is this a good tool for locating tracer wire attached to underground PVC lines?

    1. If the tracer line is ferrous metal, it will locate it. If it is a non-ferrous metal it would not locate it.

    1. The magnetic locator can help locate ferrous objects underground, underwater or in snow. It is designed to find items such as iron pipes, valve covers, manhole covers, and surveyor's markers. It will depend if the sprinkler will contain a ferrous metal.

  3. I need to locate bar joist on a flat roof. the layers are sub straight(gravel) torch down roof, 4" of insulation, and 2 in gyp. board or lite weight concrete. with metal decking being last. Would I get enough signal change to find fire lines and bar joist

    1. The maximum depth this will work with is 6" on the ground for detecting metal. It has not been tested for your application and there may be some variances in the accuracy it would produce on a roof.
