  3. Will this cord work ?

    Will this extension cord work with this welding machine ? Or would I have to change one of the plugs ?

    1. Know this is an old post, but felt like a little correct knowledge may help regardless, this is a 40 amp cord. Many devices require 50 amps to run, basically 25 amps per power leg. To answer your question, yes this cord will work with a welder rated at 50 amps, since it has a NEMA 6-50 plug. However since it's only 8 AWG, it may eventually fail if run at or near full load over long time periods. 8 AWG in SO (flexible) type cable per NEC is rated anywhere from 35 to 40 amps, depending on the number of power conductors and assuming the most common cable thermoplastic sheathing of SJT (2 cond. SJT sheath = 40 amps). Then you have to factor in the duty cycle. Ratings are based upon 100% duty cycle. If your home use equipment (welder, plasma cutter etc.) is anything like mine, it only functions in a 20% to 60% range, depending upon the equipment. There are complicated calculations that you can do to see what effect the duty cycle has on the temperature rise of the wires, but suffice it to say that it has a significant impact. Based upon my experience I would say that if you are at a 50% duty cycle you can extend the ampacity rating of the cable by approximately 25%. In this case, 40 amps X 1.25 = 50 amps. So, you're within a useable range at up to 50% duty cycle. Beyond that the temperature of the wire, and temperature surrounding the wire sheathing could cause an eventual breakdown and short. As an FYI, comparable 6 AWG, 2 power conductor, SJT sheathed cable has an NEC rating of 55 amps. Because I know that I have some equipment that I need to run 100% of the time, I would opt for a cord with 6 AWG wiring. Your local electrician can make one for you, but I guarantee that it will be more expensive than if you find one on-line.

    2. It will work with a 220 welder. It has a standard round bottom welding plug on it.

    3. This Century Wire and Cable Right Angle Welding Extension Cord can be used with the Hybrid MIG/Stick 200 without changing the plug end. However, it is strongly recommended not to use an extension cord because of the voltage drop it produces. This drop in voltage can affect the performance of the welder.

  4. Plug in connections?

    Cannot tell from the pictures but I think this is a regular 50-amp connection? Two flat electrical male probes each side with a round ground on top and a flat ground probe on the bottom? Much like a 50 amp RV plug connection? Can this be used as an extension cord for a 50 amp RV connection?

    1. This has NEMA 6-50 connections (U-shaped ground & 2 flat vertical), most RV connections have 4 prongs or have angled prongs

  8. Can a 30 amp breaker work on this or will it constantly trip a breaker?

    1. This welding extension cord can handle up to 40 amps at 250 volts. Using this on a circuit with a 30 amp breaker will not cause the breaker to trip.
