  1. Is pump oil included or do I need to purchase separately ?

    1. Mine came filled with oil, but I picked up a quart to have on hand if needed. Will change oil after initial 10 hours of run time.

    2. My pump arrived full of oil from Northern. I would suggest ordering some CAT pump oil to have for the future as you should NEVER run motor oil or multi viscosity detergent oil in these pumps as it will foam and not lubricate and cool the pump correctly. Locating the correct oil locally can be tough and I would rather have the right oil on the shelf when I need it.

  2. will this pump replace a 4sf40gs1 pump on an older Northstar pressure washer

    I need to refurbish my older cat pump pressure washer and instead of ordering new plungers, valves, o rings and gaskets, i figured i'd swap out pumps. My bolt circle (center of bolt pattern diameter) appears to be 7 inches, and I see this bolt circle accommodates a 6.5 inch span. Am I correct in how I measure this? If this isn't my replacement pump, which one would be. Thanks for any information you can give me.

    2. You are correct in how to measure the bolt circle of a pump but this particular pump will not replace a 4sf40gs1. You would want to order our item number 781041. This particular pump can be obtained through our NorthStar parts department. Their phone number is 1-800-270-0810.

  3. can this model pump be belt driven?

    1. This pump is designed to be mounted with the mounting flange directly onto it's power source, the gas engine. The design of this pump would not easily permit it to be driven by a belt as there is limited clearance on the pump drive shaft and the aluminum mounting flange would be in the way of any pulley's which you would need to drive it. You would have to modify this pump in such a way to use it other than intended that it certainly would not be returnable and the warranty would be void. I would suggest you find another pump more suited for your use.

  5. Does this setup allow you to come off the trigger, and allow water to either dump on the ground or go to a tank?

    1. The Cat Pumps comes with a built-in unloader valve that allows you to release the trigger while the engine runs, placing the pump in "bypass" mode. By default, this unloader cycles water back to the inlet side of the pump, but for best results and to prevent overheating, this bypass water can be plumbed back to a buffer tank
