If I understand your question in my opinion and based on my use of the Carry-all since I got it the only way to use it is to dismount and close it manually. The weight of the Carry all is not something I see as being able to close from the cab. Additionally one must make sure the catch-release it closed otherwise it will fall open while in motion.

It easily opens and closes and serves as a huge basket. I lined mine with plywood, bottom, sides, and rear (removable for easing dumping.

I lined mine with plywood. I used regular plywood and regret not using pressure treated. This necessitated painting the plywood with fence paint to improve its weather ability. I cut the plywood to bolt to the floor and I drilled holes in the supports for the side pieces and used self adapting screws to secure. I made two rear pieces for the tailgate. I can use one or both and they were easier to store and remove when not in use. I wish it came with a ballast box in the center. I could have gotten dual usage out of it that way.

Using a hydraulic ram as a center arm may be possible. However, you would want to contact your local hydraulic specialist to insure it is done correctly.
