    How does the electrical get hooked up to it? Directly to a hardline or does it have a plug you can connect to?

    1. Directly to hard wire in your junction box. No plug is provided. Black, white, and ground wires with a mounting plate.

  3. Can spiral CFL bulbs be used inside these enclosed glass domes?

    I saw where one fellow said he used these fixtures for his CFL bulbs. I thought that nothing other than a 100 watt or less incandescent bulb could be used inside these. Others will overheat.

    Can CFL's and LED lights be used in this fixture?

    1. Purchased 4 of these and used LED bulbs that are equivilant to 60 watt bulbs.....perfect as long lasting and cheap!

    2. It says a maximum of 100w. I assume CFL or LED bulbs should produce less heat. So, unless there is another reason, it they should work.

    3. Yes. The 100 watt limit is for incandescent bulbs due to heat generated.
      CFL & LED generate only a fraction of the heat.

    4. Sorry, but you have been misinformed. An incandescent bulb emits a LOT more heat than any CFL or LED bulb. These are just great for either CFLs or LEDs

    5. CFL bulbs can be used as long as they do not exceed the 100 watt maximum.

    2. Yes, but the longer variety does not fit under the glass globe. I had to leave off the glass and just use the cage - until I buy some shorter bulbs.

    4. YES, I used CFLS in mind for about a week and then decided to upgrade to LED bulbs. Their are more costly but last a lot longer and consume even less electricity.

    5. The Canarm Barn Light could be used with the CFL's as long as it had the same base and was not over the 100 Watt rating

    1. Any bulb with A19 base will work. I used 60watt LED bulbs

    3. This fixture uses ANY standard screw-based light bulb of 100-watt size or less. It will also work with most CFL bulbs and most LED bulbs too that have the screw-base. These kind of bulbs are available everywhere including all hardware or building supply stores.

    4. I used a 60 watt fluorescent bulb, that I bought at my local home improvement store. I also set it up on a timer.

    5. For this Canarm Ceiling/Wall Light with Cage, uses an A19 type bulb. This should be available locally. Northern Tool does not carry this bulb at this time.

  8. is it water proof

    1. Mounted 4 of these in crawl space beneath house. The space can get humid at times but not wet.
      I wouldn't have a problem mounting outdoors but only in a covered porch where they wouldn't be completely exposed.
      No rubber gaskets/seals used so I would not recommend mounting in area where they would be directly exposures to elements.

  9. Mounting

    Will this light mount directly to a junction box, or does it need the clearence provided by a finished ceiling?

    1. I mounted three directly to the junction box with no problems.

    2. The base of the fixture is just a flat plate with 2 screw mounting holes to match a standard 3" lighting junction box. It is intended to mount on the box itself. If you are installing these on a finished ceiling, then you would need an extension sleeve on the j-box that matches the thickness of your sheetrock (if the entire box is set behind the sheetrock). In my case I had exposed boxes and mounted the fixtures directly to the box with nothing in between.

  10. Solar + barn or fluorescent light?

    building a new storage/shop away from power. Can I light it with solar and not spend a bunch?

    1. You could either use a solar-battery-inverter setup for regular 110v bulbs, or buy 12v standard house-type bulbs from a marine supply store and feed directly off the solar panels and/or battery.

      The thing with the first option is to make sure all the components are properly sized to each other. There's a lot of info (both factual and otherwise) on line about how to do this.
