  1. How many HP are needed to plow?

    1. Like the above poster, horsepower requirements vary by tractor and transmission type. I have had one of these for many years and I pull it with my 10hp John Deere from 1967. I have a 4 speed gear transmission and the gearing is such that I run out of traction long before I run out of power. My tractor has wheel weights and loaded rear tires and even with tire chains power is not the limiting factor. One of the keys to turning over dirt is to get the cutter wheel adjusted correctly so that it cuts the sod/weeds deep enough that the roll over takes a lot less power.

    2. This really varies on the tractor and final drive. I have seen 10-12HP Case tractors (engine powers a hydraulic pump/motor) produce ample torque to pull one. For a standard gear box tractor you may want at least 18HP. And bear in mind these units work better with a little speed rather than a slow creep.

    3. This plow is typically used with garden tractors of 17-20 HP.

  2. can this be used behnd a 4 wheeler?

    1. You need a sleeve hitch to pull this. So, you would need to fabricate an appropriate hitch you could raise and lower, plus weight the four wheeler properly

    does this plow actually mound the hills for you

    1. I wouldn't say it mounds a hill, it turns the soil over. The soil then has to be worked further to be level and usable.

    2. Yes, it will make the rows and lay the dirt over. It will not compact the mounds.

  5. by "receiver hitch" do you mean the receiver sleeve found on trucks whereby a ball hitch can be inserted?

    1. This Brinly-Hardy moldboard plow requires a sleeve hitch. It is a U-shaped hitch designed for mounting equipment, such as this plow, to a tractor. The implement is secured to the sleeve hitch by fitting its hitch bracket over the sleeve hitch, then placing a pin through the hitch bracket of the implement. A sleeve hitch can be obtained from your tractor manufacturer.

    So if you hit a boulder or solid root you don't hurt your tractor or the plow?
