  1. Low clearance cars

    Your scissor lift seems perfect for my garage. However all of my cars are sports cars with very low ground clearance, any problem using this lift with low clearance cars? Are longer approach ramps available?

    1. For sports cars I went and bought 2 2by10's by 12 feet long, mitered a 30 degree tapper on the ends and place them on the sides of the lift and drive the car up onto the ramps and over the lift with no problems. If the vehicle sits really low just buy 4 boards and double them up.

    2. This Bend Pak Portable Mid-Rise Scissor Lift has a collapsed height of 4.75". Northern Tool does not offer approach ramps for this item.

    3. You can build ramps using stacked 2x12's or sink the lift into the floor. You'll need about 4" of height.

    I know this is built for Bendpac in China ,but are any of the hydraulic components U.S. Built ?

    1. The entire lift is made in China, steel, hoses, rams, etc.

  4. Does the unit come with oil? Type and quantity needed?

    2. This does not come with oil. You will need 6 quarts / 1.5 gallons equivalent of Dextron III ATF or 10W Non-Foaming Hydraulic Fluid.

  5. What amperage does this require at 110VAC? What amperage does this require at 220VAC?

    The item is listed as operable at either 110VAC or 220VAC - but I cannot locate any amperage for either operational voltage. Also, will it work with either one, or do I have to order a specific voltage? (Right now my garage only has 110VAC, but I plan to upgrade to 220VAC in the future).

    1. Works just fine with standard 110V in the garage

    2. The manufacturer states that this unit requires at least a 25 amp fuse for both 110V and 220V wiring options. You do not need to specify a voltage when purchasing as the unit can be wired for either voltage.

  8. The base of this lift, Model# MD-6XP, looks narrow such that there would be significant risk of the car toppling over if bumped.

    Is there any safety mechanism to prevent the car from toppling over when the lift is fully raised?

    1. There is no mechanism to prevent the lift from tipping side to side, it only has locks to prevent the lift from lowering unexpectedly or a mechanical failure. I have this lift and when fully raised its stable and I feel comfortable working next to the vehicle. If you were doing some very heavy prying on a suspension component you will feel the lift/vehicle move somewhat. You just need to use caution and common sense when working on something and know that you can't overdue some tasks, however I don't think it would ever tip over, it's pretty stable.

    2. There are no safety mechanisms built into this lift. The manufacturer has tested this lift over and over again and have constructed it with a zero percent chance of car ever toppling off the lift.

  9. Vehicle type/capacity

    Can this be effectively used on 3/4 ton GMC/ford full size pick up?

    1. If the CURB weight is 6000lbs or less and you can get all 4 arms to grab the frame effectively then yes. The regular cab GM trucks have a very short frame section to place the arms so it's difficult, but an extended cab or crew cab should be fine given it does not exceed the weight capacity.

    2. The Bend Pak Scissor Lift will work with the 3/4 GMC/Ford ful size pickup as long as the weight is under the 6,000 lb. limit and vehicle weight is centered on the lift.

  10. Room to Work

    I am interested in this lift for routine maintenance with the occasional higher level repairs. Main use will be for oil changes, brakes, tire rotations. How much room is there for oil changes and other repairs or maintenance between the vehicle and the lift?

    1. There is an adequate amount of space for oil changes and maintenance work with a maximum lift height of 53 inches.
