  3. Will a regular black pipe 1/4 inch nipple thread into the female threads on this?

    1. 1/4 inch black pipe will not work with this unit as the thread types are different.

    what do the NPSM and NPTF stand for? I thought the NPSM was the male thread and the NPTF was the female thread.

    1. NPSM stands for National Pipe Straight Mechanical while NPTF stands for National Pipe Tapered Fuel. A NPSM female fitting has a straight thread and an inverted 30° seat. The male fitting has a straight thread and a 30° internal chamfer. NPTF thread roots are designed to interfere with the crest of the mating thread with the intention of creating a mechanical seal through thread form deformation at the assembly.
