Does this model have a low oil sutdown?
-
Rebu· 13 years ago
There is no internal oil, unit runs on 40:1 pre-mixed gas!

Since the motor is a 2 stroke, you mix the 2 cycle oil in with the gas. There is no oil sitting in a crankcase. Therefore no need for a low oil shutdown device. Also no need to ever do an oil change.
I use premium 2 stroke oil (low ash, or ashless) and find there is no smoke in the exhaust and no odor in the exhaust. As in all generators you should set it up and run it outside.

Will this generator run a 5000 btu AC or a side by side ref.
Will this generator run a small room AC (5000) btu? Will this unit run a side by side refrigerator / freezer? I know it is not rated to run both at once.
-
uncleturbo· 14 years ago
It will run the fridge, mine does with power to run other things at the same time.
The 5000 BTU AC is likely going to be too much for this generator. You can try it. It will pop the circuit breaker if the AC unit draws too much current.

I have one and it wont run my well pump, so I would have to say no. I use it as a backup for lights and a fan at my cabin.

To run a small air conditioner (10,000 btu) would take 2200 watts, and a refrigerator would need the same- 2200 watts. This generator would not be powerful enough. One that would handle that wattage is listed below.

How Loud Is This Generator?
-
uncleturbo· 14 years ago
The manual specs are 80 db @ 3.3 feet from the generator, and 65 db @ 24 feet. I find it is quieter than all the generators my neighbors used after Hurricane Sandy. It has kind of a humming sound when loaded and there is a bit of "popping" when it is running with no load.

Not to loud, I'd say half the loudness of my lawn mower.

Is the run time accurate? 8.5 hours @ 1/2 load (500 watt output?)
-
uncleturbo· 14 years ago
My real life experience is about 9 to 10 hours between fill ups. And a fill up is just about bit over 1 gallon of fuel. I got close to 12 hours on one tankful when generator wasn't running a heavy load. I'd say the 8.5 hours @ 1/2 load is consistent with my experience. Compared to most portable generators which are bigger 3000 to 5000 Watts this one uses much less gas. One gallon for 10 hours vs 4-6 gallons for 10 hours.

OBart· 15 years ago
I have only run mine about 5.5 hrs and still had approx. a half tank of gas. I would say it would run 8.5 hours as noted.

ProductExpert12· 15 years ago
The run time is rated at the 8.5 hour at 1/2 load.

Powering small electric appliances - tri fuel kit
We are thinking of getting a larger generator for household power, but would like to have a small generator that will power small electric appliances without using a lot of fuel. Would this power a bread machine or electric pressure cooker? A small microwave oven or a counter top convection oven?
We are thinking of building a gasifier (creates propane-like fuel by burning wood, leaves, etc). When gas is unavailable, we could use this as an alternate fuel. There are kits that can be added to generators to make them 'tri fuel' - gas/propane/natural gas. I KNOW that manufacturers don't like 'add ons' and won't warranty the product, but couldn't such a kit be used on this small generator?
Thanks.-

This is a 2 stroke generator. It must have OIL mixed with the fuel to lubricate the motor. Any DRY gas, such as Wood Gas, Propane, CNG cannot be used on a 2 stroke motor. Dry GAS cannot accept any oil to mix in the fuel stream. Only a 4 stroke motor can accept a DRY gas fuel since the lubrication of the motor is independent and not included in the fuel source. Get a copy of "Internal Combustion Engines 101" or "Piston Engine Operation for Dummies" for further information. Another fine reference manual is: "Simple Physics for Dummies" Hope this helps!

Depending on the amp draw of your bread machine and other small appliances, this could be able to power these small appliances. This generator will provide 8.3 amps of power at the rated wattage. The All Power Generator is not designed to be used with any other fuel options.

What is the fuel to oil mixture recommended ratio?
-
uncleturbo· 14 years ago
The fuel mix recommended is 40:1. The fuel recommended is 90 octane. Which I just noticed when reading the manual. So far I've used regular 87 octane, but will start using 90 octane from now on.

Is the cup on the inside, bottom of the gas cap the proper measuring device for the 40 to 1 gas mixture?
-
uncleturbo· 14 years ago
I'm not sure, I don't use the cup integrated into the fuel cap. The mixture of 40:1 requires 3.2 oz of oil per 1 gallon of fuel. That is the same mixture my chain saw uses and I have 2 cycle oil that the container has a 3.2 oz. feature built-in to measure the oil correctly. It isn't very difficult.
