The AIMS Power 3000-Watt 12 Volt Low Frequency Inverter Charger is two products in one: an inverter that transforms DC battery power into 120V AC electricity for tools and appliances of all varieties, and a built-in 100-amp battery charger that recharges the bank from grid power or a fuel-powered generator, with a battery-type selector on top of the unit to adjust charging voltage. Its most requested feature is the direct connect terminal block, which supports 300 percent surge capacity for up to 20 seconds and peaks at 9,000 watts — enough to start refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, blow dryers, and motor-driven tools including most electric chainsaws, portable grinders, and shop vacs. Note that the GFCI outlet with two receptacles carries no surge capacity and peaks at 1,500 watts, so the terminal block must be used to access the inverter's full surge capability. Pure sine wave output runs equipment that requires it, including laser printers, computers, televisions, CPAP machines, and other medical devices, and the low frequency design produces lower total harmonic distortion for cleaner, more efficient, quieter operation. An automatic transfer switch keeps power uninterrupted during an outage, detecting the loss of shore power and drawing from the connected battery bank instead — enough to run lights, a refrigerator, a sump pump, or a space heater to keep pipes from freezing, though you should always verify the wattage requirements of your equipment first.
