Choosing the Right Pressure Washer Nozzle for the Job

Is your pressure washer not cleaning as well as you had hoped? Or is it doing more harm than good to surfaces? Before you blame your pressure washer, consider switching nozzles. The solution could be as simple as that. Using the correct nozzle for the job can deliver a dramatic difference in cleaning performance and how quickly you get the job done.

Powerhorse Pressure Washer

Quick-Connect Convenience

The most common and easiest nozzle to use is the quick-connect nozzle. They come in five colors to designate the degree of water spray. Selecting the correct tip helps you maximize your pressure washer’s cleaning capability and reduces the risk of damaging surfaces. When shopping, you will find spray angles from 0 to 40 degrees and orifice sizes from 2.0 to 7.0, allowing you to select the best nozzle for the job. In simple terms, the lower the degree, the more powerful and focused the water stream is. For example, a 0° nozzle is far more powerful than a 40° nozzle.

  • The 0° red nozzle is reserved for the toughest cleaning chores, delivering a narrow, concentrated, intense stream of water. It should only be used on hard surfaces such as concrete or unpainted metal and not on easily damaged surfaces, such as house siding.
  • The 15° yellow nozzle is designed for heavy-duty cleaning on unpainted surfaces, including driveways, walkways, heavy-duty equipment or farm equipment-and is not to be used on delicate surfaces.
  • The 25° green nozzle is ideal for general washing for most surfaces including lawn furniture, siding, vehicles, eaves and more.
  • The 40° white nozzle is designed for gentle cleaning on fragile surfaces, including windows, siding and more.
  • The black soap nozzle is a low-pressure option for safely applying detergents and more to any surface.

Turbo Power

Rotating turbo nozzles are another time-saving, labor-saving choice. These nozzles deliver a powerful 0° pattern for the ultimate blasting power, increasing cleaning efficiency 200%. Turbo nozzles are great for paint prep, stubborn dirt or stains, wall cleaning, paint stripping and much more. Quick-connect plugs make switching between nozzles quick and easy. Nozzles typically feature brass or stainless steel construction for durability and corrosion resistance. Both materials are an excellent choice.

Adjustable spray nozzles are another popular option, featuring a 0° to 40° spray pattern, plus high- and low-pressure settings for use with a chemical injector.

The Right Nozzles Save Time and Effort

Every cleaning job is different and selecting the appropriate nozzle can increase your effectiveness and minimize washing time. Before you start washing, consider the surface material. Blasting mud from steel, for example, calls for a much different nozzle than washing debris off your house siding.

Determine the wash job you need completed and decide what nozzle will work best for you.
