  1. Is this cord safe to bury underground?

    1. The NEC (National Electric Code) does not allow extention cords to be buried.

No, while it is labeled SJTW and therefore approved for damp or wet locations (and probably would survive just fine), for a cord to be approved for direct underground burial it must be listed as UF (which this is not). And actually the larger concerns occur at the protection provided at the cord ends and whether GFCI is provided.

    3. No! You should never bury an extension cord, that's not what they are designed for. Run a piece of exterior UF-B cable of the appropriate capacity for the application, and terminate it in weatherproof j-box/receptacle. Check your local codes, but UF-type cable usually doesn't need to be run in conduit except where it may be susceptible to damage (entering structure, going into the ground, etc.)

    4. I don’t believe any extension cord is rated to be buried in the ground it is rated for outdoor use.

    1. Yes it is 12/3. And it is a very good quality.

    2. Mine is. At least that is what is stamped on the jacket. And it feels like it. And my tools behave like it when attached. I haven't yet cut this one apart.

  5. How flexible is this cord. I like a soft outer shell which is easy to roll up and use. I already have some similar cords which aren't this way so I don't want to make that mistake again. Is the yellow outer insulation shiny or dull in color?

    1. The cable is soft and easy to roll up. It is flexible up to -40 degrees. It would be a shiny yellow color.
