In Kansas the most common size tanks for residential use are 1000 gallon and 500 gallon. Also there smaller residential tanks in sizes of 350 gal, 250 gal, and 125 gallon. Note that larger tanks are measured in gallon. Smaller tanks are refered to as "pounds" of propane. The most common portable tanks (known as DOT tanks) are for BBQ grills and such. They are 20 lb tanks but with the exchange programs popular today most of them are only filled to 15 pounds. These are also popular in small campers. They hold about 4.5 gallons. Then there the 30 and 40 lb tanks used on larger camping trailers. The largest of the portable tanks is the 100 lb tank. Propane weighs 4.2 lbs per gallon at 60 degrees F. The 100 lb tanks hold about 27 gallons but remember a tank can only be filled to 80% of its capacity to allow for expansion so the gas doesn't excape the relief valve when temperatures increase. So a 100 pound tank will net you 21-22 gallons of useable propane. I hope this is helpful.

Thant depends on usage but the most common is two 100 pound tanks and using the old trick is tun one off till you run out and switch to the other one and swap it out but with the new top off deliverys that is not needed any more and many reduce the need for the second tank as we have a gas dryer a gas cook top and our BBQ Hooked in and found we only need one tank with a top off refill every 4 months

LP tank sizes can vary widely. Some homes may have as little as a 50-lb tank if only using it for supplemental heating, up to a 1,000-lb tank for homes running most appliances on LP. You will simply need to find out approximately how much propane you are currently using, and how ofter you would like have the tank(s) refilled to determine what size tank is best for you.

How far from house can it be in house or on side of house?
-
upnorthhere· 10 years ago
No propane cylinders larger than one pound are generally allowed inside any dwelling, under jurisdiction of NFPA 1 or NFPA 58. An explosion could level a large building. The location outside would depend upon the distance between the relief valve and various building features (openings, A/C units, exits, etc).

No, This unit does not have the proper fittings to be used on a forklift. This unit has a POL (Prest-O-Lite) fittings an ODP (ozone depletion value) would be required for a foklift.

Does this tank have a bleeder valve to enable filling to 80%?

GurneeMan· 14 years ago
yes. And to avoid too frequent refills and loss of BTU I recommend using a Powerblanket Gas Cylinder Warmer.
