  1. Do you have to wire the brake lights into your car?

    How does the brake lights work on this trailer? Any splicing of the wires into the car?

    1. Bought the wire harness for my 2012 Hyundai Elantra and it was PLUG and PLAY. Took longer to expose the plugs in the socket ( had to pull back the side panels in trunk) than to connect the wires!! EASY PEASY!!

    2. yes there is a standard 4 pin connection, Ideally you should buy the interface cable for plug and play if your vehicle was designed to tow it will have one available. (Subaru Outback) otherwise the universal kits use splice connectors.
      Keep in mind higher end cars should be done by a pro otherwise you could start shorting out control boards if you tap into wrong wire.

    3. This trailer comes with a wiring harness with a 4-flat plug that will need to be plugged into your vehicle.

  2. Adjustability Question

    Is there a way to chock the front wheel farther back on the trailer? I would be pulling this trailer with a GL1800 Goldwing motorcycle, so the tongue weight needs to be limited to under 20 lbs. The bike I would be towing is a sport bike, just over 400 lbs. and has a short wheel base. I would not be apposed to adding an additional wheel chock behind the factory one.

    1. I added another wheel chock further back for my 2009 Kawasaki Concours C-14 685 Lbs so I could reduce tongue weight and moved the bike back toward the loading ramp to balance the load better. I was able to reduce the tongue weight down to 120 + or - lbs as compared to 285 lbs w/the 685 lb. bike in the wheel stop provided. Your looking for something that will not happen w/your WING. Sorry for that. You will NEVER get your Wing to have the little TONGUE weight. You would have to extend the rail longer behind the axle and then it wouldn't be a balanced load. Good Luck!

    2. NO you should not chock the wheel back, it needs to be strapped around the semi-circular section that cradles the front wheel. It is certainly possible to mod it that way but would lose all the stability it was designed for. The physics may work out to a 20 lb. tongue, that does not mean you could safely drive it down the road that way (static vs. dynamic load).

      Keep in mind that a normal hitch has a lot of lateral stability when attached to a car or truck, but on a motorcycle I would not trust it too much, however other uses claim to use it this way, not for me.

    3. This motorcycle trailer must be used in the way the manufacturer intended. Regarding adding an additional chock, Northern Tool cannot make recommendations as to altering the motorcycle trailer or the loading/transporting configurations set by the manufacturer.

  3. Can this be towed safely by a motorhome?

    1. We just pulled it empty over 1800 miles, and with a bike for 1900 miles. It pulled very well -- didn't even notice it behind us.

    Can you install larger tires? If so how large can you go?

    1. Bought 2 tires same size (4.80X12 4"on 4" pattern) but 6 ply not 4 ply w/steel valve stems. Higher rated speed, now I want to get higher speed bearings to ride speed limits in S. Fl.

    2. On this Ultra-Tow Single-Rail Folding Motorcycle Trailer it is not recommended to change the tire sizes. Any modifications to this would void warranty.

  5. Does this trailer have suspension

    Does this trailer use anything for shock absorption on the road?

    1. No shocks but rubber is used to cushion the wheel bearing spindle to the mounting area. If the bike is secured properly the bikes suspension will absorb all the bouncing that will occur.

  6. Is this trailer suitable for a lawn tractor in addition to a motorcycle?

    Lawn tractor weighs less than my motorcycle (less than 600lb)

    1. This motorcycle trailer can only be used for transporting a motorcycle. It's not designed/manufactured for transporting a lawn tractor. Using it for non-intended applications will void the warranty.

    1. 4 nut square pattern, 12 in rims 20 in overall diameter with tires

    2. The wheels are a 4 bolt on a 4" bolt pattern. The overall diameter would be 20.7".

  9. whats the tongue weight on this thing?

    my hitch only has a 200 lbs max tongue weight, dont see that stat listed

    1. most of the motorcycle sits on the tongue. I would recommend 500 lbs as a min for hitch capacity

  10. Where to get comparable size rim with correct hub diameter?

    I'm looking for a 3rd rim for a spare. I ordered a 4 on 4 rim, but the hub diameter of the wheels that come with this are ~2 1/2" and the one I purchased was ~2 3/4". Unfortunately very few, if any, retailers give hub diameter as a listed specification.

    So, if one would want a 4 on 4 spare rim with the exact same size hub diameter what is available??

    1. The hub size in only important if the hub center is LARGER than the WHEEL center hole on the rim. Larger HUB and SMALLER wheel center on rim will not fit hub. I bought same size tire for a spare w/a 4X4 bolt pattern and the center hole on the rim was LARGER than the stock rim. The LUGS CARRY THE WEIGHT NOT THE CENTER HOLE. As long as the bolt pattern is the same and the lugs are acorn shape (self centering of the rim) and the rim fits over the hub, your good to go.

    2. A spare tire/rim combination for this motorcycle trailer can be ordered from Northern Tool's Parts department at 1-800-222-5381. The Parts department is open 7am-6pm, Central time Monday-Friday and 8am-2pm on Saturdays. Northern doesn't carry a rim separately with the 2-1/2" center hole.
