The heavy-duty Torin 2 Ton Folding Shop Crane is specifically designed to raise, lower and transport engines, differentials, transmissions and other heavy loads with minimal effort. This hoist has a 4-hole position reinforced boom, enabling four different load capacities. The vertical lifting ram gets items raised to the maximum rated lifting capacity with ease. Some assembly required. Meets ASME PASE safety standards.

    4. If yours is like mine then all 6 wheels swivel. I like that the legs fold up to save storage space. This unit is a dream to use even with big block engines and it rolls easily on concrete level floors even with a load in place. Remember to keep the loads between the wheels. Extend out too far and it can get nose heavy!

  2. does the boom fold down completely? can i see a photo of it completely folded up?

    the deal breaker for me right now is just how compact it can get folded. i'd like know if it can be folded down completely, and i'd like to see a shot of it collapsed completely if possible. thanks!

    1. BOOM DROPS DOWN AND WOULD TOUCH FLOOR IF RAM WAS SLID OUT ALL THE WAY, I HAVE A SMALL SHOP AT HOME AND IT TAKES UP LITTLE ROOM

    2. My unit goes down to about the footprint of the rear four wheels. The front legs fold a little past straight up. The boom also folds down almost flat and parallel with the cylinder.

    3. Just look at the stock picture: the 2 long support legs fold backward, so they're straight up & down. Then you lower the boom down as far as it will go. So basically the whole setup will be just above those 4 wheels that are close together -- the rear & center sets of wheels. I have limited space here & I was able to find a spot without too much trouble.

    4. The boom folds down almost flush with the cylinder and the legs fold up. The floor space needed for storage when folded up is only the space where the casters are.

    1. Yes, one bolt top, one bolt bottom and it's in.

    2. yes. the jack is ready to go. the whole thing is fairly easy and quick to assemble. it is heavy and you'll need some big wrenches but easy.

  5. Are replacement hydraulic cylinders available through Northern Tool? If not where can you acquire a new cylinder?

    The cost to have the hydraulic cylinder rebuilt is very high. R&R seems the best obtion.

    1. The closest match to what the Torin Shop Crane does, with a winch, would be Northern Tools Item # 29254 but would not have the same capacity and would have to be modified to be mobile.

  9. What is the maximum boom extension at 1/2 ton?

    One use for this hoist will be in removing & refitting hardtop from a car, so needs to reach to center of roof to work for that application. Many thanks -- though most basic specs do include all capacity/extension figures, couldn't find this info on the site.

  10. What is the ground clearance required for this device?

    For my application, the legs need to slide under a frame 7" off the ground. Will they fit?

    1. The hoist measures 7 3/8" from the ground to the top of the frame of the leg. The measurements from the ground to the top of this engine hoist is only 57 1/2".
