I am interested in possibly purchasing this system. Can it be set up to directly sell the energy to my local utility? I Know some do this now.
1 answer-
ProductExpert13· 16 years ago
This kit is made to be used as a backup power source. It is not set up to sell power back to your local utility. The systems that are made to work in this respect are known as "grid tie" systems. See link below for a grid tie system that will allow you to connect your solar or wind power to your local utility.

What is the purpose of battery storage: amperage or voltage?
In other words, will a large series of batteries be hooked up in series or parallel? Will added batteries provide more dependability and back up power - like a larger battery with a combustion fuel engine and a standard alternator?

The purpose of the battery or batteries is to store the power that is produced by the solar panels. On their own, solar panels produce inconsistent power, the solution to this is to use batteries as a way to store and distribute the power.
Voltage, Amperage and wattage all come into play in a system such as this. Wattage is the measurement of ability to do work. Voltage is electrical pressure, and amperage is a measure of current.
The goal of a system like this is to provide enough wattage to run the electrical items that you need to run.
Volts x Amps = Watts
In a 12 volt solar system the panels produce 12 volt current that is channeled through a charge controller that in turn keeps the batteries charged without over charging them. The power that is stored in the batteries is then channeled into an inverter that changes the power from 12 volt (like in an automobile) to 120 volt (like in a house) in this process the wattage will stay the same, but the amperage will be divided by 10.
To maintain consistent voltage throughout the system wiring will need to be in parallel for both the panels and the batteries. If the wiring were to be done in series the voltage would increase with every batter or panel that is added.
The number and size of batteries that are used in the system will determine the length of time that current will be provided before the batteries discharge.
Adding more batteries will not necessarily make the system more reliable because if one battery in the system goes bad it may actually discharge the other batteries because they are wired to it in a parallel circuit.
Power storage batteries are rated in amp hours (Ah). This is the number of amps that a given battery can supply for one hour, or the number of hours that the battery can supply one amp (this number can be used interchangeably in that manner).

What sort of household demand will this package service?
I have electric bills which give me monthly usage. How much will this system provide for AC usage equivalent?
Approx 1000 kWh.month, or 30 kWh/day, with seasonal peaks.
Is the 1300 W, or 1.3 kW on demand or per day, per hour?1 answer-
ProductExpert11· 16 years ago
This Sunforce solar backup power system provides 1000 watts per hour under optimum conditions.
Due to the many variables of appliances you could power with this system, we are not able to confirm what this will exactly be equivalent to in AC voltage.
Please keep in mind some days will be better than others because the sun is not always shining.
With the batteries as your power source, they can only last as long as the panels rate of charge.
