The duty cycle varies on this pump with a longer duty cycle at a lower pressure and lower ambient temperature. Under typical conditions this pump can run for up to two hours and then it should be off for an hour.

This pump is listed as 180 GPH. That would convert to 3.0 GPM.

Is the inlet and outlet threaded? What should you use to connect to1/2 irrigation hose?
-
pkos· 12 years ago
Yes, they are, I used a male-female 3/4" sprinkler rigid riser. It is perfect for connecting the pump and the hose

The inlet and outlets are threaded. To connect to a 1/2" irrigation hose you would need a hose barb fitting like the one I will list below.

Is there any way to control the pump automatically ?
without needing to switch the pump on or off manually
-
CatDYI· 13 years ago
This is an on-demand pump. Once you turn the tap on, it will start. If you turn the tap off, it will prime (to get ready for the next time) and then turn off.

Run on a car battery?
Can I run this pump on a car battery (out of the car) which has about 800 CCA?
-
Mickeal· 13 years ago
No. 10 amps max. More than 10 amps will not allow the pump to function properly. It will run cautiously

Will this pull water up from a well 10' to 12' deep?
-
acme66· 14 years ago
I think it would if primed but you are not going to get any pressure out of it. Can you mount the pump down into the well and push rather than suck? That would work.

will this pump hook up to a regular garden hose?
-
JeanF· 14 years ago
Actually, standard garden hose is only 5/8" inner diameter, not 3/4". The fittings are 3/4", but you can get 1/2" to 3/4" garden hose adapters at any of the big box stores or plumbing stores (I checked, Northern Tool doesn't have them). You can also purchase 1/2" garden hose, but you'll still need the adapters because the fittings are still 3/4". This is what I did with my pump.

ProductExpert29· 15 years ago
The SHURflo On-Demand Diaphragm Pump has 1/2" fittings, and would not be compatible with a standard garden hose(3/4") which would lower the flow rate. When the flow rate is low the pump may re-pressurize the outlet faster than the fluid is being released causing rapid cycling, where damage may occur.

what type of power supply can this be plugged up to?
The pump says that it needs 10 amps max. What if I want to plug this into a cigarrete lighter or add a power source such as a transformer so I can plug this up to a wall socket. Do the amps on the power supply have to be under 10 amps?
-
Wemr· 14 years ago
No the pump will only draw the ten amps it needs, it is better to have more than the minimum.
I doubt that it will run on a lighter outlet, a better choice would be to hook it up to your trailer connection.Helpful?

ProductExpert29· 15 years ago
The amperage used for this pump will vary depending on the psi the unit is set at. At maximum psi (50), it will draw 10.6 Amps, 9.6 Amps at 40 psi, etc. If you want to convert to run on a cigarette lighter, make sure the battery attached has the minimum amperage required. If you would like to run on household current, there is a model available designed for 115 volt electricity. See link below.

For pop up camper use?
I want to use this product for my pop up camper sink.
Will it go on and off automatically when I turn the sink faucet on? Also will it run dry? I would like to use it pump water from my rain barrels to my garden? Will it get damaged if it continues to run after the barrel has emptied? Thanks.-
ProductExpert23· 12 years ago
This pump is an agricultural and industrial pump and is not recommended for use in an RV. The pumps that are recommended for use in an RV/Camper application are listed below. According to the manufacturer the pumps listed below can be run dry without damage.

It seems to me that this pump should work fine for a camper. When you turn on the faucet it will come on and when you turn off your faucet, the pump will stop running. I use mine on a rain barrel to water my garden. When I release the nozzle handle, the pump stops, when I pull the nozzle handle, it starts again. I don't know about damage from running dry--I water my garden by hand and monitor my water levels. Used in this way, the pump does a very good job. Hope this helps.

Pump performance
Require a 12 volt pump that can pickup from approx 8 ft in elevation , push 40 ft in elevation over a 200 ft of poly pipe, would this pump be able to handle this load. Thanks for your response Bill
-
ProductExpert6· 16 years ago
For every 12 feet you will loose 1 foot for every 1000 foot above sea level. As long as you are below 4000 feet you are good.
This pump will pump your 40 feet up and have about 20 psi left over but your choice of pipe will affect that some more. The smaller the pipe the higher PSI and less water volume. The larger the pipe the less PSI and more volume.

techyguru· 16 years ago
The manufacture specs claim up to a 12 foot pull that reduces by 1 foot for every 1000 feet above sea level. As long as your bellow 4000 feet above sea level it should prime fine.
This pump will pump your 40 feet up and have about 20 psi left over but your choice of pipe will affect that some more. Bigger the pipe the more psi at the end. Smaller pipe will lower your psi and flow rate. Be careful if you go too big of pipe you'll start to get sediment in your pipe if your water isn't perfectly clean.
