  1. Can this charger be used to safely and effectively charge marine batteries as well?

    2. It has a "Deep Cycle" option on the Batter Type Switch. I have not tried it, but this is from the manual:

      Deep-Cycle• – Deep-cycle batteries are usually marked as “Deep-Cycle” or “Marine”. Deep-cycle batteries are usually larger than the other types. This type of battery has less instant energy but somewhat greater long-term energy delivery than regular batteries. Deep cycle batteries have thicker plates and can survive a number of discharge cycles.

    3. Yes, you can use the Schumacher Handheld Portable Charger with marine batteries. This charger is designed for all lead-acid batteries.

  2. Will this charger turn on if a battery is extremely dead?

    The fancy digital automatic chargers will not turn on if it doesn't since enough voltage in the battery.

    2. This charger will turn on if a battery is extremely dead. Also you have the option of putting the charger on the manual mode for few minutes before using the automatic option.

    2. The Shumacher Portable Charger does not have an on/off switch. When power is supplied, the Power On LED indicates that there is power to the charger.

  4. Does it have a way to indicate the battery is bad and must be replaced?

    1. yes, It can also resusitate a battery. I had a dead lawnmower battery. It said it was bad but: I jumped it, trickeled it, jumped it again, kept doing this for a few sessions and brought it back to life. It finally started the mower. I then put a permenant solar trickle charger on it with no problems ever since.

    2. There is a "check battery" indicator. When lit, this LED indicates there is something wrong with
      the battery. Check the DC connections for an improper connection; otherwise
      the battery may be bad.

  5. i have diesel engine with 2 large batteries. is it ok to use the 100 amp. to charge these, or will it damage batteries?

    1. The 100 amp setting is designed as a boost for starting the vehicle, running the charger on this setting for too long (any more than 1 or 2 mins.) could cause damage to the battery and/or charger. Hope this helps

    2. The 100 amp mode is the start mode only. You cannot use this mode to charge batteries.

  6. Can this charger be used on a motorcycle battery? Can it be used as a trickle charger?

    1. yes and yes as long as the motorcycle battery is either 6 or 12 volt.

    2. This charger can be used on any 6 volt or 12 volt battery including motorcycle batteries in either of these two voltages.
      This charger does have a 2 amp charge setting which would be considered a trickle charge rate.

  8. Schmacher portable charger Model# SE-1510MA. When disabled on the road I assume you do not have to plug this unit into a electic outlet. Also do you pre charge it at home.

    1. This battery charger with boost option would need to be plugged into a 120 volt outlet to charge or boost start a vehicle. Northern has portable boosters available. (see below)

This is a charger not a chargeable jump pack you have to plug it into a 120 volt outlet or use a vehicle that has a dc to ac convertor to plug in the unit to a running vehicle but otherwise no it will not charge at home you would want a jump pack if you are looking for something portable to start a car on the fly meaning on the go, hope this help's.
