    Does it have a built in battery?

    1. Yes, there is a 12V sealed battery behind the left side panel.

  2. can you tell me how the remote start works?

    1. The remote start works just like a car remote starter. Just push the remote start button twice, and it's just like turning the key. The choke is internally controlled by a solenoid.

    2. Remote key chain- just like a car.. TO USE remote Start and stop. you need to turn the key to the ON position-then you need to flick the switch on generator to REMOTE START ON-up to 75 feet away press one button twice and hold till it starts.press the other button on the remote to stop. this unit has an automatic choke.NOTE leaving the remote switch on for an extended period WILL drain the battery inside of generator.

    3. Remote Start:
      1.Turn the remote switch to the ON position.
      2.Push the start button on the remote twice and hold until the engine has started or for a maximum
      of 10 seconds. Release and repeat if necessary.
      3.Always turn the remote switch to the ―OFF position when not in use to prevent running down the battery.

    1. The output sockets don't have rubber covers on them, so you could have problems if you left it out in the rain.

  5. How is this generator an inverter?

    Can you run DC power into it and it convert it to AC?

    1. This generator is called an inverter because of the way it produces power.

      Traditionally, small generators spin an electric magnet within a coil of wire to create power. The speed must be regulated for the AC power to remain at 60 Hz. This is usually done with a wind based (cooling air or exhaust gas) governor system.There is relatively simple electronics used (for the electric magnet) to maintain the 120 voltage. Advantage is very clean power and simple electronics. Disadvantage is noise caused by always running at full speed, regardless of load.

      This generator has a 3 phase alternator in it, similar to a car. The 3 phase power is not available to the user. It is rectified (turned into DC) and feed into the INVERTER circuit that turns it back into 120 VAC power. A cheaply made inverter would create horrendously dirty power. This generator has a sophisticated inverter to create relatively clean power.
      Advantages of this inverter-type generator is noise - it can throttle down during light loads and weight - because the permanent magnet 3 phase alternator is much lighter. Disadvantage is the amount of sophisticated electronics and the potential for dirty power.

      You do not have access to the DC input of the inverter circuit. You cannot apply DC to the inverter.

    2. An inverter generator produces much cleaner power (for sensitive electronics) while maintaining a compact size and low running noise. DC power cannot be run into it.

  6. How quite is the unit?

    1. it has a switch for economy. LOW IDLE for smaller loads.the idle atoumaticly increases when more power is called for. running on low idle. IT IS VERY QUITE-- BUT when running at full RPM you can hear it. its not silent-But the sound it produces is a much lower tone then that of a contractors generator

    2. This inverter generator has a decibel(dB) rating of 56 at no load and 65 at full load. For comparison, a 70 decibel noise level equates to 70 normal street noise or an average radio and 60 decibels equates to a normal conversation close up. This generator's decibel level at full load would fall in between those two noise ratings.

  7. does this unit come with a rv convertor plug

    If not can one be purchased for this unit. I want to run my a/c on our 5th wheel unit.

    1. NO CONVERTER PLUG included. I run my 24 foot camper whith 13.500 AC unit off this generator using an adapter that plugs into the stantard 20 amp duplex whith no problem.

  9. Can I jump start a car battery with the Powerhouse 3100, Is there a Cold Cranking Amp rating ??

    1. There is one 12 volt DC 8.3Amp battery charging receptacle. You can charge a car battery with this generator. It does not have a booster to jump start a car.
