HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SIZE GENERATOR I NEED?

HOW TO CALCULATE
Running watts needed: Total running watts of ALL items to be powered by the generator.
Starting watts needed: Add highest SINGLE starting watt to total running watts needed above.

EXAMPLE

  1. Calculate running watts
    Furnace 600 + Lamp 100 + Microwave 1000 + Refrigerator 700 = Total running watts 2400
  2. Calculate starting watts
    Total running wattage 2400 + Refrigerator 2200 = Total starting watts 2400

QUICK REFERENCE WATTAGE

1200-1800 watts examples: power tools, coffee maker, heat stove. 2800-3800 watts examples: refrigerator, electric table saw, clothes washer. 5500-12000 watts examples: air compressor, electric furnance, clothes dryer.

    1. If an extension cord is needed, use UL-listed, outdoor-rated, grounded extension cords of the proper size. There is a table on page 16 of the Product Manual which shows proper sizing and lengths for different loads.

  10. Will this generator burn up electronic device plugged in since this generator produces dirty electricity by not having a diode in the system. Whatvis the requirement for a grounding rod to prevent a electrical shock hazard. Can a cell phone be charged

    1. The Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of this generator is less than 23%. Typically, a THD of less than 5% is recommended for use with sensitive electronics.

      To ground the generator, drive a 3/4" or 1" copper pipe or rod into the ground close to the generator. The pipe/rod must penetrate moist earth – the depth required will be dictated by local soil conditions. Next, connect an approved ground clamp to the pipe. Then, run a 10 gauge wire from the clamp to the generator grounding post which is located on the base of the generator frame to the right of the battery location. DO NOT connect the generator grounding post to a water pipe or a ground used by a radio system. If a licensed electrician installs the generator with a connection to your building's electrical circuit for use as a back-up power system, grounding may alternatively be completed through the building’s grounding system.
