  1. How often does the cooling pads need to be replaced? What is needed? Cleaning/ sanitizer, bleach?

    1. The cooling pads would need to be replaced every 3-5 years, depending on the local hardness of the water, environmental dust and how well you maintain and clean the system. To maintain it, you should drain the water weekly and gently wash it with evaporative media. For daily use, you should turn of the water pump 15 minutes before shutting off the fan to dry the media and stop mold growth.

    1. This evaporative cooler is not cordless. It comes with a 12-foot cord.

    1. This unit works by pulling warm air through water-saturated cooling pads. As the water evaporates, it naturally cools the air before a fan circulates the cooler air into the workspace.

  5. 800 CFM is decent but How many BTU’s?

    1. Evaporative coolers are rated per CFM. They are not rated per BTU. There are to many variables to provide an estimated BTU rating. BTU rating is used in relation to refrigerated air conditioners.

  6. Does this cooler use ice as a basic IS ICE THE BASIC COOLANT

    1. The Portacool Apex 500 cools the air using water, not ice. While ice can be added to the water for additional cooling, it is not necessary for the unit to function.

    1. The evaporative coolers can be used outside. It would depend on the temperature outside as to how well it would cool the area.

  8. Is this just a fan? I see there’s a power cord but what else? Is there an exhaust port that needs vented outdoors? And how long does a full tank of water last if it’s on full power? Do you need ICE to make it COOL?

    1. This is an entire Portacool evaporative cooler including the power cord. These need to be operating with ventilation to fresh air, either with a door or window open. No need for ice in the tank to operate best, and the tank of water will last would be depending on the relative humidity. The drier it is outside, the quicker the tank will need to be refilled due to the lack of humidity.
