This Schumacher Battery Charger/Maintainer is fully automatic and keeps stored batteries fully charged. It can start charging a battery as low as 0.1V and automatically determines whether the battery is 6V or 12V. It's an ideal choice for motorcycle, lawn tractor, ATV, snowmobile or PWC batteries, but has the power to maintain car, RV, boat and collectible vehicle batteries as well.

  1. Does this charger desulfate while charging or after the battery is charged and still connected?

    1. The Schumacher Charger/Maintainer when first plugged in will analyze the battery and if sulfation is detected it will enter desulfation mode. Once desulfation is successfully completed it will enter charging mode.

    2. This unit will analyze the battery when it is first plugged in. If sulfation is detected during that analysis, the unit enters desulfation mode. Once desulfation is successfully completed, the unit will enter charging mode.

  2. Does a new battery need to be charged first before using the battery maintainer?

    1. it is a maintainer, not a charger, so start with a well charged battery.

    2. This unit will not put out any charge on a completely discharged battery, as it must be able to detect the battery to trigger the charging process. If you have a brand new battery that has no charge, this unit will not detect it. This unit is designed to see a failure to top off within 12 hours as a potential problem with the battery and it will give up and abort the charging process if that happens, which means it will not have charged the battery completely. Due to the small size of batteries used in motorcycles or lawnmowers, this unit can be used to fully charge them from a low level, provided there is enough voltage on the battery for the unit to detect it.

  5. Can this be used to charge/maintain a bank of batteries?

    I have four 12V AGM batteries intended for use with a solar panel during power failures. Can I use this unit to initially charge then maintain these batteries and if so, can they be connected in series and parallel or only one way?

    1. This unit can charge a bank of batteries as long as the proper cords are used.

  7. when is it fully charged?

    The needle moves to the green "battery charged" section then swings back to the right and after a few seconds goes back to the charged light. Is that normal if it is fully charged or is it still trying to charge?

    1. The YELLOW LED indicates CHARGING, the GREEN LED indicates battery is fully CHARGED and the RED LED indicates CHECK BATTERY.
