Can this unit be set up to switch between LP and natural gas without changing components?
ie, i understand LP needs some adapter, but once it is installed, can you switch between the two easily?

Yes, with the flip of a switch you can go from one fuel to the other. The tool is included with the generator and instructions on how (or which way to turn) is in the manual. There are pictures to guide you as well because the switch requires you to; open the top, remove the front panel and locate the switch near the air filter. READ all of the instructions because you need to pull it out before turning and you need to turn it all the way to the stop.

No adapter needed. On top of the carb is a pull pin to switch from one fuel to the other. The book gives very clear instructions. Takes about 5 seconds to convert from one to the other. Comes from the factory set to Natural Gas.

There is not an adapter that is necessary to use this generator with LP. There is a switch on the top of the carburetor that allows you to easily switch from one fuel type to the other.

Is it possible to pre-purchase a manual for this product?
I would like to run this past my LP provider, electrical provider, & electrician before making a purchase.
-
Jamie114· 15 years ago
You can download the manual on Generac's site. I did a lot of my research with different electricians, most highly recomended Generac. I love mine, glad I made the choice. It cost me about $500 dollars to have my LP company run a new line from my tank and hook to my generator. For them, it was about 4 hours work. The electrician took about 8 hours, and got a deal at $400 dollars from them. Coordinate with the two people so they can come on the same day. It makes things a lot easier.

If I turn off all the breakers will the generator shut off in order to save fuel. If I then turn a breaker on will the generator start back up?
-
ProductExpert13· 11 years ago
Turning off the breakers will not cause the generator to shut down. A properly installed automatic standby generator is designed to turn on when the transfer switch senses an outage. Then it will shut down when the grid power comes back on.

-
Generac· 11 years ago
When installed appropriately, an automatic standby generator will automatically operate if a utility outage is ever sensed through the control wiring connected between the generator and associated transfer switch. Turning off individual circuits and/or their associated breakers will not interrupt the sensing of utility power, nor will it cause the generator to shut down while running.

This generator is equipped with an exercise timer. Once it is set,
the generator will start and exercise every seven days, on the day
of the week and at the time of day specified. During this exercise
period, the unit runs for approximately 12 minutes and then shuts
down. Transfer of loads to the generator output does not occur
during the exercise cycle unless utility power is lost.Helpful?

How well does unit start and operate in sub zero temperatures ?
Generac Guardian 8kW generator
-
ProductExpert23· 12 years ago
If cold weather is a concern we recommend the use of a cold weather kit when temperatures drop below freezing (-32 degrees).
Helpful?
-
Generac· 14 years ago
For our automatic standby generators, if you expect the temperature to drop below freezing, we recommend utilizing a 5W-30 Synthetic oil, which can be used year round. We also recommend using a cold weather kit, which includes a battery warmer and a crankcase heater. Using the correct oil and cold weather kit will allow the generator to start and run in below freezing temperatures.
