The gas line material and size should be determined by a certified plumber to meet your local and state codes. The generator will come with a flexible fuel line which measures one foot in length and should be utilized between the generator and the installed fuel line to prevent the generator vibrations from damaging either the internal regulator or the rigid pipeline. The line size should be on the volume and pressure required. The volume and pressure required if utilizing natural gas is 140,000 BTU/hr with 3.5-7” water column.

The gas line material and size should be determined by a Generac certified installer or a certified plumber to meet your local and state codes. The generator will come with a flexible fuel line which measures one foot in length and should be utilized between the generator and the installed fuel line to prevent the generator vibrations from damaging either the internal regulator or the rigid pipeline. The line size should be on the volume and pressure required. The volume and pressure required for the 14kW unit, model number 6240, utilizing natural gas is 140,000 BTU/hr with 3.5-7” water column. Furthermore, the loads required in a house will vary, and are determined by the items you deem necessary to run in an outage situation. To properly determine the correct generator for your needs, we recommend working with your local certified dealer or local certified electrician, as they will be able to determine the correct size generator to meet your needs.

Can the breakers be changed to a different size breaker?
I don't need the 50 amp or 40 amp double pole breakers. I would want to get a 30 amp double pole and two more 20 amp single pole breakers.

If you are utilizing a Generac brand EZ-Switch transfer switch, the total amperage of the circuit breakers cannot be increased, but multiple smaller breakers can be removed to accommodate a larger breaker, and a larger breaker can be removed to accommodate a smaller breaker.

Generac· 13 years ago
If you are utilizing a Generac brand EZ-Switch transfer switch, the total amperage of the circuit breakers cannot be increased, but multiple smaller breakers can be removed to accommodate a larger breaker, and a larger breaker can be removed to accommodate a smaller breaker. For example, if another 20 amp 120 volt breaker were needed, either two of the 15 amp 120 volt breakers could be removed and have that 20 amp breaker installed, or a 30 amp breaker can be removed and have that 20 amp breaker installed. A single 15 amp 120 volt breaker cannot be replaced with a 20 amp 120 volt breaker as that is increasing the total amperage. We recommend speaking with your inspector for approval to modify the switch, as modifying the switch from the factory setting can void the UL listing. Your local codes may also require the use of arc fault breakers when replacing the already existing breakers.

Is this suitable to run full time?
We are building in a remote area and have no electric service. Would this generator be suitable to use as electricity production with our NG supply? It would run full time.

If I have a 200 amp service in my home will the transfer switch work with that or will I have to purchase a 200 amp switch for this 14kw generator?
I am only going to use the generator for the things I really like to keep running in an emergency.
-
BenchmarkElectric001· 14 years ago
This model includes an ATS with load center. So--you will pull those "essential loads" from your load center over to the ATS.

If the items that will be connected to the 100 amp automatic transfer switch that is included require less than the 100 amps to operate, then the 100 amp switch is all that is needed.

my home has 100 amp. breaker box. is this generator large enough to provide elect. for my home?
-
BenchmarkElectric001· 14 years ago
If you have a 100-Amp load center and you want this 14kW generator to run the circuits on that load center, I'd recommend you purchase the same generator but with a 100-Amp service-entrance rated ATS. Given that scenario, keep in mind the 14kW generator has a 60-Amp main breaker on board. If you have an all electric home, you might be better served with a 20kW model. If you have gas heat and a gas hot water heater, stay with this 14kW model. Consult a qualified generator installer for best results.

You would need to determine all the appliances you will need to run during a power outage. Then add up the wattage requirements to be sure to get the right size generator. Northern would typically recommend consulting with your local electrician to properly size your home.

What manufacturer circuit breakers are in the transfer switch and are they removable and interchangebale. I want to controla 220 volt 30 amp load so i need to pull the 50 say so is it a ge type breaker?
1 answer-
ProductExpert12· 15 years ago
The transfer switch for this generator includes a double pole 20 amp circuit breaker and a double pole 40 amp circuit breaker in addition to the 15 and 20 amp 120 volt circuits. As long as your electrician follows local codes and regulations, the circuit breakers are interchangeable.
