  1. does the cooking grill swing out of the way

    1. Yes, it swings back and out of the way to lay flat. It's NOT detachable though.

    2. The grill is attached to the fire ring. simply lift the grill by the handles and lay it to the side of the fire ring. If you have ever camped at a National Forest campground, this is the same type of fire ring as the one from Northern Tool.

  3. What is the overall width of the grill at the handles?

    1. The overall width of the grill at the handles is approximately 28". The fire ring is 24" in diameter. The width at the handles allows you to move the grill from the fire ring without burning your fingers. Also, the handles are manufactured to reduce or eliminate the heat that a solid handle would have from the heat of the fire.

    1. No, and it's better like that because it's really heavy. My suggestion, put a stone or a brick to sutain it when it'open: better then lay it right on the ground!

    1. This Pilot Rock steel fire ring, model FS-24/6 is not designed to be permanent. It does not come with anchors.

  7. Wondering about metal thickness. Also what diameter rod the grate is made from.

    1. The fire ring itself is made from 3/16" thick steel plate with a formed 1" wide flange around top edge. The grate is 5/8" diameter steel perimeter bars and 1/2" diameter steel grate bars. Grate hinges are formed using 5/8" steel bar, and the handle is made from 3/4" steel, with handle grips being 1/8" x 1/2" coiled steel.
