This tow-behind NorthStar ATV High-Pressure Tree/Orchard Sprayer delivers 2 GPM at open flow and has a maximum system pressure of 200 PSI. Equipped with a commercial-grade NorthStar NSQ series plunger pump, it provides easy priming, exceptional durability and superior resistance to harsh environments and corrosive chemicals. Not only is the pump durable, NorthStar's tank braves the elements with UV-stabilized material to prevent fading and other sun damage. Adjust the spray gun nozzle to 3 different spraying modes: stream, cone and atomized mist, depending on the job. Accurately control system pressure through NorthStar's sprayer regulator with liquid filled pressure gauge. Spray wide, narrow and everything in between with the spring-loaded breakaway boom arms.   1. Does this sprayer really reach 30 ft. high? My past experience is that they usually only do about 1/2 of what they claim.

    1. When I first tried mine I couldn't get the pressure over 100 lbs.no matter where I set the pressure regulator. Then on the 2nd day all of a sudden it went up to shutoff pressure which in nearly 200 psi. Has worked great every since and the spray nozzle is excellent. I use a garden twist tie to hold the nozzle in place.

    3. I used this unit over the past weekend and it reached a 30' peak of my house without a problem and the pressure was not even turned up all the way.

  2. Pump type

    How easily does this pump prime compared to Diaphragm style pumps ?
    Will It re- prime itself when air gets in the suction end ?

    1. Mine primes reasonable fast as long as either the spray nozzle or the boom nozzle valve is open to expel the trapped air.

    2. This pump primes great, but like any pump air on the suction side will cause issues. Once the air getting in the suction side has been fixed the pump will prime fine again.

  3. Is there a bottom drain on this unit?

    1. The drain is located at the bottom rear of the tank. Pulling up the drawbar allows quick and complete emptying.

    2. The sprayer tank features a 3/8" drain plug located on the backside.

  4. Should I overlap the spray while towing?

    I don't understand whether I should overlap while towing with both booms deployed. It looks like the center 40" automatically overlaps. Does that mean I should overlap the outer 40" by towing it close together for each pass? Or does it mean that each nozzle is designed to only spray 1/2 the dose for the center overlap?

    1. It's not that the nozzles are designed to spray half dose, you need to adjust the spray so that the middle 40" is full coverage and overlap the outer 40" of the previous pass.

    2. With the sprayer level the height of the unfolded boom nozzles will be about 21” from the ground and the overall spray width is 120”. Each pass must be overlapped by 1/3 or 40” throughout the spray area to get equal coverage. Use the tables in the manual to determine what speed to drive for the desired application rate.

  5. would this sprayer work ok to spray on pond chemicals from shore

    1. I'm sure it will and that will be one of the reasons I purchased this sprayer. I've had good luck killing filamentous algae in a 3/4 acre pond with my old Northern tank sprayer. I do the same with pond dye, BUT DON'T TRY THIS ON A WINDY DAY!

    2. It is possible this unit will work with pond chemicals. Please see page 4 in the product manual on this product's specifications page for the intended use with pesticides and other non-flammable liquids.

  6. pump current

    what is the pump current when running at maximum pressure,and can it be run continuous at max pressure ? will it be necessary to use a higher capacity battery than a lawn and garden battery. my mower has a 15 amp alternator regulator, which means, if the pump pulls more than that ill have a discharge situation. will i need a larger or even a discrete source

    1. The pump draws full current when you are actually spraying and the pump is working bring the pressure back up. At other times, the pump is circulating and the battery will recharge.

    2. The pump motor has a 20 Amp maximum draw. 100% continuous duty rating with no cool down period required. This is designed to be used with a lawn mower or ATV. As long as the battery and alternator are in good condition they should keep up as long as you keep the towing vehicle running. The 2 GPM pump will empty this sprayer in 10 minutes of running time. The battery would recharge while refilling the tank.

  7. can the boom sprayer be set to set to spray one side at a time?

    1. Yes. You can adjust either nozzle to not spray.

    2. This sprayer includes left and right boom nozzle control valves so you can spray just one side if necessary.

  8. I understand it will spray UP TO 2 GPM, but what is the minimum out put it will spray. I have 10 foot dwarf apple trees on a trellis. I would think I'd want to use something like 500 cc per minute....in putting on an insecticide like Seven.

    1. There is not a minimum flow rate for this sprayer. It will operate at 2 GPM as long as there is enough liquid in the sprayer tank. If a lower flow rate is needed, please view item #282790. That sprayer is rated at 1 GPM.

  9. Can you use horticulture oils mixed in this such as neem oil? If not, do you recommend another sprayer for such an application for fruit trees?

    1. The pump is not approved for use with horticultural oils, as they do have a tendency to be thicker and could clog the pump and other components of the sprayer. At this time, we do not offer another sprayer which is approved for use with these oils.

  10. Do you sell what I’d needed to convert hitch so it can connect to   1 7/8” or 2” trailer ball?

    1. At this time, we do not offer a ball coupler that would convert this hitch to fit a 1-7/8" or 2" trailer ball.
