  1. Does the piece at the end of the 4.5"x24" 4 way wedge system need to be cold rolled steel or is hot rolled good enough,1 3/4" x 9"x14"

    Looking to buy the piece on the end and cold rolled is very expensive but harder, is it needed or will hot rolled do?

  2. Hydraulic requirements

    I'm trying to determine if my existing hydraulic power pack will work with this unit, my power pack will produce 10GPM at 2000 PSI, you recomend 11GPM but do not specify PSI, what effects will 10GPM vs 11GPM have on the unit?

    1. In short, it will move the cylinder but may not split certain types of wood and/or may go too slow. A 10 GPM pump will move about 10% slower than an 11 GPM. Your 2000 PSI pump is low if getting into medium or hard woods. Most splitter pump we use run at 3000 psi.

  3. What is the spec on the piece needed for the end of the I-beam to split against? I see nothing in the manual or in comments on this piece.

    1. The NorthStar 4-Way Wedge is 9.2" wide and 7.75" high. The plate needed on the end of the I-beam would need to accomodate this size.

  4. What thread type is the high pressure port in the cylinder?

    1. The cylinder in this splitter kit has 1/2" thread ( -8) O-ring boss (SAE O-ring) ports.
