The heavier the hose the harder it is to pull the hose behind. That being said you can attach multiple hoses and it will do the job,

The manufacturer recommends using just one standard 5/8" hose. The sprinkler may work when hoses are coupled together, but if they have larger fittings it can get hung up.

Will this travel on sand? I also would like to use it to water an indoor horse arena.
-
weaco· 10 years ago
With any loose soil, they will only travel a short distance before getting stuck and digging a hole with both wheels.
Key is to not have a lot of hose to drag.
Sand, I might try it, but if it's really soft, I think you'll have problems.
I don't use mine for newly planted grass.Helpful?

I saw one guy who altered the wheels by using the wheels and adding 2 smaller wheels to the frame and made it into a 1/2 track like a bulldozer looks real cool I may do this just for the look. It will bog down in soft sand. If you want to use it in a smaller indoor setting the next info is not recommended but what I did is drill 2 more tiny holes in the arms near the other holes but about 1 inch back in a position that will keep it rotating and moving in the correct direction. if you drill too many holes you can tape them up or buy new arms from the manufacturer

This sprinkler would not travel well on sand. It would get stuck, and sink into the sand.

What type and size hose will it travel on? Does it toe 1 inch firehiose for example?Does it travel on the hose it uses?
-
weaco· 10 years ago
I use 5/8". It will also follow 3/4".
Larger....I doubt it. Smaller ...no. And it has a problem cornering on cheap flexible hoses, and 1/2" hoses.Helpful?

I use a medium weight hose if the hose is too heavy it might bog down at some point the wheels will dig into softer ground if the hose is too long or heavy. I have actually used a 100 foot hose

How many hoses?
I don't understand how this works!! I am trying to find a product to help me water my indoor arena quicker. Do I hook 1 hose to it and lay out another 1 in the pattern I want it to follow? Please help. Thank you, Michelle
-
HANDIEMAN· 14 years ago
this will follow the hose in any pattern you lay the hose out in. it works great I had an acre of land and could set it up 4 times to water the entire acre. if it comes off the hose for some reason it will go until it runs out of hose

Can you adjust the radius of the spray?
If so, what is the minimum radius?
-
OldCarKook· 13 years ago
Yes absolutely! You simply change the angle of the arms so they aim "lower" which would narrow the radius of the spray. Be aware that when you do this, you will also increase the speed of the rotation and therefore the speed of the tractor which makes sense since you are now putting more water in a smaller area.

How does the automatic shutoff work? How dependable is that feature?
-
HANDIEMAN· 14 years ago
Great if it doesn't run off the hose. If you keep the hose straight as possible at the end of the run there should be no problem. I love this product. This is my second one because I left my first one with my old house.

With this traveling sprinkler, there is a ramp that comes with it. You will place the ramp where you want the sprinkler to stop. It will stop the sprinkler from moving but not the water from spraying.

How fast does the sprinkler travel over the 200 feet of hose?
-
HANDIEMAN· 14 years ago
It has a fast and slow setting on it and the fast setting is slow enough but it will probably take about 2+ hours

-
ProductExpert26· 14 years ago
The speeds for the Nelson Rain Train may vary due to the water pressure, terrain and other factors. But it can move up 60 feet per hour.

does it work on sloped terrain how many hose can it run on
-
OldCarKook· 14 years ago
It will work great on sloped terrain, but, you have to configure it so the tractor is pulling the hose downhill and not uphill. If pulling downhill, it will pull a lot of hose. The amount of hose it can pull is difficult to predict because of the wide differences in the weight and size of hose. For example, it will pull 200' of 1/2" lightweight hose but may not be able to pull 100' of 5/8" heavy duty "rubber" hose. So the type of hose you use to feed this will have a significant effect on how much it can drag. Be smart about how you layout the hose so that it's not trying to drag the bulk of the hose uphill.
