  1. Draining used oil from Mityvac into collection tank?

    Once oil has been collected inside the container, how easy is it to transport and remove discharge cap to pour used oil into a collection tank or how is this designed so there is no mess?

    1. You can reverse the pump, so you can just put the sucker tube into whatever vessel you want to dispense the oil into and pump. It's not mess *free*, but it's very tidy if you're careful. Just note that there will be some oil left in the hose which will run out if you let it.

    2. Very easy to transport with no mess at all. It has a removable expandable rubber plug that looks to be pretty leak free and it is easy to remove. I would just ensure that the mityvac is upright during transport. It pours well to empty. Just have a couple of paper towels with you to wipe the plug off after you remove it as it is lanyard'd to the mityvac. Very neat design and you shouldn't have any issues.

    3. The top of the tank has a rubber expansion plug. You flip up the lever, pull the plug and pour into whatever you are dumping to. The lip of the hole is shaped like a water pitcher, so it goes where you want. Worked well for me.

    4. You don't need to pour the oil out , just engage the transfer switch to pump out position the the fluid will come out the hose when you pump it .

    5. Like pouring from a gas can, a small collection tank may require a funnel. We sometimes take the used oil and pour back into quart size containers then transport to our bulk used oil tank.

    6. It is very easy to transport and dump the old oil out. I usually use a little mineral spirits to clean the container so it is ready for any other liquids.
      The cap just pops out and it has a small spout area that makes it easy to pour.

    7. It is very simple to transport and remove the oil. You will want to remove the stopper plug where the cantilever is and there is a pour spout built in to discard your used oil manually.

  2. what size is the extraction hose? How small a dip stick will it fit.

    1. It comes with a "big" hose (10mm) and two smaller ones with adapters. The smallest one is 5.8mm outside diameter. The middle hose is 6.7mm.

    2. The Mityvac Fluid Evacuator comes with 3 different extraction hose sizes, they are small, medium and large. This item is designed to fit a wide variety of dip sticks however their is no listing for the smallest size.

  3. can it be used to evacuate synthetic oil without damage to the pump?

    1. Yes. The pump works on *air*, providing vacuum/pressure to the main tank. The fluid being dispensed/extracted never touches the pump itself.

      Synthetic and conventional oils aren't that different outside an engine, so anything that could handle one can handle the other.

    1. The gas vapors will destroy the seals inside.

  8. If only used for oil extraction, is it necessary to clean this out everytime that it is used?

    1. The oil would need to be drained out each time and disposed of properly. The evacuator is not intended to be used for storage. It is recommended to periodically clean out with warm soapy water to avoid it getting clogged up.

  9. What are the dimensions?

    I will be putting this in my repair van and I need to know if it will fit into space available. What is the length and width of the base? What is the overall height of the unit and how far does the foot hold stand out?

    1. The dimensions for this product are 12 3/8" L x 9 1/4" W x 23 13/16"H, the 12 3/8" long measurement includes the foot hold measurement. The manufacturer does not have a measurement available for the base without the foot hold.
