This Meyer Tailgate Spreader is easy-to-use and perfect for small- and medium-size jobs like walkways, long driveways and small parking lots. The in-cab two-speed controller lets you stay warm while you make adjustments. It is easily attached to any SUV, light pickup, tractor and utility vehicle with a 2in. receiver hitch. An integrated motor guard protects the 1/6 HP electric motor and serves as a storage stand when the spreader is not in use. U.S.A.

  1. Your ad says; "Patented design prevents material from leaking ". Does that mean NO LEAKING of material occurs until spreader is turned on to spread.

    1. This unit has a patented brush to reduce coarse material from leaking out of the hopper when it is idle. Materials such as rock salt, the brush will keep it from sliding out of the throat of the hopper.

  2. How narrow can the spread be?

    I have a lot of 48" wide sidewalk and don't want to waste material on the grass. I'll be using the spreader on a 3pt hitch.

    1. This tailgate spreader has a variable speed controller allowing you to adjust the spray pattern down to 3 feet (36 inches) and up to 25 feet.

    1. There is no flow adjustment. This is equipped with speed control that adjusts the rate of discharge.

  5. Is there an adjustment on the gate for regulating flow?  Can this unit be used on the rear of a UTV for spreading seed?

    1. There is no adjustment for regulating the flow. It would have a speed control that adjusts the rate of discharge. It can be mounted to a UTV with a 2" receiver hitch. It is not recommended for use with seed.

  6. can this spreader be used to spread salt and sand mixture?

    1. If you are spreading sand you would need to add on a vibrator kit. The vibrator kit is available through the manufacturer.

    1. This spreader is not designed to be used with sand. The manufacturer recommends using #1 rock salt or calcium chloride.

  8. When you say this spreader is for salt, is bulk rock salt OK

    Bulk rock salt can be sticky and or a little wet, does this have a means to agitate or loosen the salt so it drops down to the spinner.

    1. The manufacturer recommends using #1 rock salt or calcium chloride. It would not be recommended for use with bulk rock salt. The spreader does not have an agitator.

  9. Does it include remote control, if not, how is the spreading controlled?

    1. This Meyer spreader has a in-cab two-speed remote control that is included. The two speeds would determine the spreading width. The off position will stop spreader.

  10. Can I attached this to an ATV?

    1. This Meyer spreader would not be safe to use on a ATV. It weights 132 pound and 296 pounds of material would be unstable for a ATV. You would want a ATV spreader (see below).
