Makita does not recommend using a Generator to power the MAC5200 Air Compressor.

ProductExpert38· 12 years ago
This Makita compressor runs at approximately 1,587 watts (13.8 amps x 115 volts = 1587 watts). Therefore, both the EU 2000 and the Champion 3500 would supply sufficient power.

Can you run synthetic oil in the MAC 5200 compressor, and if so, what weight? what is rhe capacity?
-
MakitaTeam· 11 years ago
For the Makita 3 HP Air Compressor (model MAC5200), only use air compressor oil as noted in the Instruction Manual on pages 9 and 12. Multi-Viscosity motor oils, like 10W 30, should not be used in an air compressor, including the MAC5200. They leave carbon deposits on critical components, thus reducing performance and compressor life. Use air compressor oil only, and always keep oil level in the middle of the sight glass.

This compressor is not supposed to be used with synthetic oil. In most cases it runs off of a 30 weight oil. The capacity is 10 ounces.

I wish to use the MAC5200 with a cnc plasma cutter. The MAC5200 specs say 50% duty cycle. I need to know how long I can run it before I must stop and let it cool. How long?
-
MakitaTeam· 13 years ago
50% Duty Cycle refers to the time that the compressor motor/pump should run on any given application. For example, if the compressor is use 4 hours a day, the motor/pump should only run 2 hours during the 4 hour period. If the compressor motor/pump runs much longer than 2 hours, it is an indication that the compressor may be too small for the desired application.

ProductExpert30· 13 years ago
Duty cycle is based on a 10 minute time rating. A 50 % duty cycle means it can run for 5 minute over a 10 minute period. The compressor has 6.5 CFM at 90 PSI, if you use 1/2 of that on your plasma cutter you can use the compressor 100 % of the time. The compressor will cycle as needed.

3 hp?
The specs for this compressor claim 3 hp @ 13.8 amps, suitable for a 120 single phase outlet. The numbers do not add up. A true 3 hp motor would equal a running current of over 18 amps, not something you can plug into a standard outlet. What is the true motor rating?
-
MakitaTeam· 13 years ago
The Makita 3.0 HP* Air Compressor (MAC5200) comes equipped with a maximum 3.0 horse power motor that provides 2.1 running horse power.

Where is the thermal overload reset switch located?
1 answer-
ProductExpert41· 11 years ago
The reset switch is located behind the cylinder. Behind the cylinder either to the left or right you will find a corrugated tube. The switch is then located on the opposite side of the tube mounted to the motor housing.

Will this run 2 framing guns at once without lag in building air for framing residential new construction?
1 answer-
ProductExpert36· 11 years ago
Yes, as long as the the framing guns are not consuming more CFM than the unit can produce. If that is the case there should be no down time for pressure build up since the unit can replace air pressure faster than it is being used. This unit has a CFM rating of 6.5 at 90 psi, and 6.9 at 40 psi.
