Save your back hauling heavy appliances and equipment with this handy tail gate lift. 28 1/4in. x 29 1/4in. tail gate lift is powered by a heavy duty 12 Volt DC motor winch. Standard 2in. receiver bar has multiple pin positions. 36 1/2in. lift range from ground level.   1. Can the Larin Tailgate Lift be used on an SUV, specifically a Ford Explorer or Toyota 4Runner?

    1. This is a continuation of my previous marks about using the Larin Hitch Lift on my 2006 Ford Explorer. I detailed the measurements of the 3 pieces of plywood for my tail gate. The measurements of 44"X21" and 44"X 14" could vary depending on the distance you select between the receiver and the hitch lift.

      I should have mentioned that the 44"X21" piece of plywood rests directly on top of the winch portion when folded outward and that provides support for the 44"X14" piece of plywood as well. This piece could be as large a 44"X16". I mounted 2 short pieces of 1 inch angle to support the 44"X14" piece of plywood on the front end of the hitch lift platform. A small gap exits between the lift and my homemade tail gate. Before I cut the small piece to down to 44"X14". The power chair would not clear my tail gate.

      After the wired remote stopped working I installed two wireless remote switches, one for "UP" and one for "Down". After unloading my wife's power chair, I press the "UP" button, and walk away while taking the power chair to my wife. In bad weather I used to pull the "trigger" on the wired remote while standing in the adverse weather.

    2. I installed this unit on my 2006 Ford Explorer 3 years ago. It has a 2 inch receiver hitch. My local home improvement center cut a sheet of plywood into 3 pieces. The large pieces fits over the 3rd row seats when they are folded down. This piece is 44" from side to side and 43" front to back. The next piece if 44" wide X 21" and it hinges to the 44X43 inches piece. The next piece is 44X14 inches and it hinges to 44X21 inch piece. The 2 smaller pieces fold out to form a nice "Tailgate". I load my power chair and fold the 2 pieces inward, close the lift gate and I traveling.

  2. Can this be made to use with a semi trailer?

    Is it removable?

    1. This lift connects to the 2 inch trailer hitch of the pickup truck. Semi trailers don't have the same kind of hitch.

    2. The Larin Hitch Lift slides into most 2X2 square trailer receivers. I have a small dolly that fits under my hitch lift that I use often to remove and reinstall my hitch lift in less than 10 minutes. This allows me to multi-task my only vehicle.

      The hitch lift shipping weight for billing is approximately 120 pounds. My poor, sad old back says that to much to be carrying around, when a little effort and an old furniture dolly and some plywood saves the day.

    3. Per manufacturer this is only designed for pickup trucks. It is removable from a standard 2" receiver.

  3. Does the truck tailgate still operate normally

    Is it a pain to load the truck and operate the tailgate in a regular way when you don't need to use the lift, with it attached?

    1. When you rotate the platform down to level, you can open the tailgate and load or unload as normal.

    2. The Larin tailgate lift would not allow your tailgate to work normally. You can easily remove the lift from your 2" receiver when you need to use your tailgate.

  4. Can this be wired to use my trucks towing wiring system? (i.e. 4 pin , or 7 pin trailer connections)

    Or is there a conector that can be added to make the power wires from this use my trucks towing system wiring/power?

    1. Not recommended. It comes with enough wire heavy gauge wire to reach the vehicle battery.

    2. The manufacturer does not recommend connecting the lift to an existing system. The tail gate lift should be hooked up the vehicles battery and use a 50 amp fuse.

  5. do connecting battery cables come with this item?

    1. yes, it comes with wiring that will reach from the battery to the back of the vehicle.

  6. Do the outriggers come off, or do they ajust

    and can I use a battery and not hook it up to my truck wiring

    1. The outriggers come off easily and they are adjustable. You can use a battery alone, but it will go dead pretty quickly. I always leave the engine running if the job will take more than a few minutes.

    2. The outriggers for the Larin Tailgate Lift will adjust up and down and would come off, although the manufacturer doesn't recommend using the lift without them. You would be able to use a 12 volt battery other than the vehicle's to power the lift.

  7. Can this be used with a flat bed?

    Can this be used with a flat bed truck that has a receiver hitch, but no tail gate?

    1. This tailgate lift is designed for use only with trucks that have tailgates. Using it with a flatbed truck would leave a gap between the lift platform and the flatbed.

  8. How long does it take to move up. Are there faster products will it work on a yukon full size suburban type vehicle

    1. The Larin Tailgate Lift currently does not have a rated run time from the manufacturer. It is designed to be used with pickup trucks only. At this time, we do not offer a lift similar to this model that is compatible with Sport Utility Vehicles.

  10. What is the measurement of the tailgate lift for wheelchairs. Would a scooter fit on it. About four feet x two and one half ft.

    1. This gate lift measures 28 1/4" X 29 1/4", so it is smaller than your scooter.
