  1. Backlight?

    Does this unit have a backlight? If so, how is it activated and in what color?

    1. The screen is 3" x 5" and has a backlight that is toward a very light blue tone.

    2. Yes it does have a back light. When operating on the A/C power cord, you can select either On, Off, or automatic. It's light blue and quite readable.

    3. yes you can have it on permanent or for 20 seconds or use the light cell setting to turn on at dusk

    4. Yes it does have a backlight… It is Blue and it will only be on when it is plugged into a power source. It is off when on battery power

    5. The weather station includes a light sensor that detects low light conditions and will turn the backlight on automatically (A/C power cord use required).

      •AUTO: The backlight will be off in when there is adequate light, and will come on automatically in low light conditions.
      •ON: The backlight will be on constantly when using A/C power.
      •OFF: The backlight will remain off unless the LIGHT button is pressed.

      For continuous backlight control, the A/C adapter (included) must be plugged in.
      •Adjust backlight sensor sensitivity to high or low using the switch, located on the back of the weather station.
      • When operating on battery power alone, press the LIGHT button to activate the backlight for three seconds.

      The color of the backlight is light blue.

    Can the thermostat range be changed to centigrade ie. from F to C?
    Can all other measurements be changed to metric?

  3. What is the range of the sensors

    I would like to mount the sensors in the back yard about 200 feet from the house. Will it read the sensors at that distances.

    1. My unit is approx. 96 feet away from the Sensor and works great The display unit is approx. 15 feet from the Sensor. The manual list 100 feet as max.

    2. The transmission range is 100' (open air) between each sensor and the weather station. It would not receive the transmission at 200'.

    Is it Internet of things (I o T) capable?

  5. Wind speed it can handle

    Here on the Oregon coast winds often reach hurricane speeds, i.e. 70 - 90 MPH, or more. What is the maximum wind speed that this unit can handle?

  6. Mounting Arm for Wind Unit

    Is that mounting arm for the wind unit flexible? Does it remain steadfast after stormy winds, or does it get bent out of shape and need to be repositioned?

    1. It is not flexible and the winds will not alter its position

  7. can this or any of your weather stations communicate with another device like an anemometer on a sailboat mast?

    1. No this can only communicate with the sensors it comes with

    2. This and other weather stations similar to this one can only communicate with the weather station center they come with. This unit does have its own anemometer to detect wind. It is designed to be mounted on a stationary object in your yard though it might be possible to mount it directly on a sailboat mast. This might decrease the life of the anemometer since it is made of light-weight plastic.

    Where and how high is the weather/wind speed indicator to be mounted?

    1. For most accurate wind readings, mount the wind sensor as the highest item in the area with a 50 foot clearance in all directions (avoid tall trees, buildings or other obstructions that may block or reflect the wind).

    2. The higher the better but the most important thing is that there be no nearby obstructions in any direction around the sensors. Nearby trees, buildings, or other obstacles generate turbulence in the airflow and this will adversely affect the measurements taken by the instrument. Rain gauges and temperature sensors can be at any height but you should avoid covered areas or overhanging branches or eves. Usually temp sensors are mounted out of the direct sunlight.

  9. can the rain gauge withstand freezing

    1. The Rain Gauge is self-emptying and can be left out all year or stored for the winter. If the temperature is above 32°F (0°C), use Alkaline batteries. If the temperature is below 32°F (0°C), use Lithium batteries. If stored, remove the batteries to avoid leakage.

  10. How to mount rain sensor?

    Can anyone share how and where they mounted their rain sensor?

    1. Make sure that the rain sensor is level. Inside there is a built-in level to assist in mounting. Make sure the bubble is centered in the level. Place the protective screen over the top to protect the rain sensor from the debris. Where practical, mount the rain sensor in place with wood screws (not included).
      Make sure that the rain sensor is in open area where precipitation falls directly into the sensor’s bucket, ideally 3-6 feet above the ground.
      Note: The rain sensor will need debris removed on a regular basis. Mount in an accessible area.
      Mount the rain sensor in an open area away from the walls, fences, trees and other coverings that may reduce the amount of rain falling into the bucket. Additionally, trees and rooftops may be sources of pollen and debris that may clog the rain sensor.
