The Ironton® 30 Watt Folding Solar Panel Kit is the ideal environmentally friendly solution for portable power in remote areas. Great for a variety of full sunlight applications including deer feeders, 12V pumps, sump pumps, trickle charging vehicle batteries and much more. One 30 Watt folding polycrystalline solar panel with high efficiency solar cells delivers up to 1.72 Amp power to a 12V DC battery (battery not included).

  1. Can the panels be split ?

    1. no -- it is a unit that folds up and is very compact when travelling.

  2. Is the Charge Controller weatherproof?

    Can it be mounted on the outside of a building where it will get rained on?

    1. I am not sure -- but it does not look like it would be water proof.

    2. The charge controller is not weatherproof or water resistant. It must be kept dry.

  3. Can two or more panels be connected in parallel to increase wattage at 12v

    1. A "NOCO ISCC2 5-Way SAE Adapter Connector" will make an easy connection of 4 panels to one charge controller.

    2. More panels can be connected in parallel to increase the wattage. The charge controller that comes with this kit can handle up to 120 watts of solar panels.

  4. I had a similar tool for my pontoon boat, but it was stolen last year. Does this have any kind of connection for a securit cable, like a bicycle lock

    1. This solar panel kit does not come with a specific connection for a security cable. You could string a security cable through the handle, but that may not be enough to deter thieves.

  5. What is the best wat to use this for multiple battery system?

    Where i mainly use this, my direct sunlight time is limited due to trees. it doesn't get full sun all day. Can I use without the charge controller for quicker charging?

    1. This solar panel kit can only be used to charge one battery at a time. It cannot be used without the charge controller. To do so would risk overcharging and causing damage to the battery. You can add more solar panels with more wattage for faster charging. You would connect the solar panels in parallel. The charge controller it comes with can be used with up to 120 watts of solar panels.

  6. How do I order a power cord extension?

    What are the connectors called? What gauge wire is it? Do you carry the extensions?

    1. Northern Tool does not offer a power cord extension for solar panels. This uses 12 volt DC connectors and any 12 volt DC wire can be used.

  7. How weather proof?

    Want to mount this panel connected to battery outside on trailer for use as I travel. Panel and components could be exposed to rain. What precautions should be taken?

    1. The Ironton Folding Solar Panel Kit is weather resistant but could get damaged in high winds or hail. You would want to protect it in that type of weather.

  8. How long is power cord?

    Can more length be added to wire?
    Also will it charge 3 boat batteries connected together?

    1. The cable length is 10 feet and the battery clamps cable is 3.5 feet. You can add up to 10 more feet of cable using the same gauge wire. If longer cable is required you would need to use a heavier gauge wire. More than one battery can be charged, as long as they are connected in parallel. Please note, that the more batteries it is hooked up to, the charge time will be longer.
