  1. How much distance do I need to allow between the gate and the post for this latch to work properly.

    I have to install the post and gate before the latch is available, so how much space should I allow?

    1. about 2-1/2 inches is what i have. Some of my post where further so i nailed a 3/4 x 4" treated board in place to take up the slack.

    1. This steel gate latch is designed to fit onto a tube that has a diameter of 1-5/8" to 2". It is not recommended to alter the size of the connection for a smaller diameter pipe.
