  1. Is the steel tank lined to avoid rust?

    1. No, the tank is Cold Rolled Steel. As long as you keep fuel in it and the cap on, minimal moisture should develop causing any rust. However, it is steel..so if you were to let the tank sit empty for a period of time, it would most likely develop some rust. The tanks are pre-treated with an anti-rust inhibitor at the factory...which keeps them in pristine condition while in inventory.

    2. no, the tank is not lined. The interior appears to be unfinished good-quality steel. I have not had any issues with rusting as of yet.

  2. What is the ground clamp for

    1. There is a slight possibility of sparking when the Hy-Pro Fuel Station fuel nozzle touches the fuel tank on your mower or garden tractor, etc. due to a difference in static electricity charges between the two (the fuel station tank and your empty tank). Sparking can ignite any fuel vapors present and create anything from a brief "pop" as a small amount of vapor catches fire, all the way to a huge explosive fireball due to a large amount of vapor present. This can lead to further problems if liquid fuel catches fire from the ignition of the fireball. The ground clamp, applied to the empty fuel tank before using the hose to re-fill the empty tank, balances the electrical charge between the two tanks and prevents any such spark from occurring. You should use it each time you refuel.

    2. To ground the tank. If the tank is properly it will remove the risk of static spark.

  3. Filling it up

    Since there is a grounding cable/clamp can you fill this in the back of a pickup?

    1. Yes, but it is best to connect the grounding cable/clamp to the pump before re-filling the fuel station. The tank is far too heavy, when filled, to set on the ground before filling, and then have to lift it up into the pickup truck.

      It is also a good idea to have this fuel station grounded to your pickup truck by drilling and bolting the fuel station down to the truck bed. Then there is no more danger from static discharge with the fuel station than there is when you fill the tank on your pickup truck. "Touching" the fuel station tank with your empty hand before refueling, while holding the nozzle from the gas pump in the other hand, can also help to dissipate the static electric charge difference between the two. This helps to reduce any danger of a static electric spark occurring.

  4. does it come in yellow for diesel fuel?

    1. go down to your local fuel oil dealer and ask for a 1993 red sticker to put one (1) each on a side of this and legally fill and haul diesel in it.the sticker will identify it,instead of yellow paint.

    2. If you want to fill this tank with diesel at the local gas station I suggest you paint it yellow. The EPA mandates specific color containers for specific fuels. Red/gasoline, blue/kerosene, and yellow/diesel. The attendants at the station may not allow diesel in a red container.

  5. does it have a vented fuel cap?

    1. Yes it is vented like any standard fuel tank cap to let air back into the tank when the fuel is flowing out.

    1. No. You will need to figure out a way to mount the nozzle and/or hose according to your situation. I mounted an extra trailer wheel rim nearby and I coil the hose around that.

  8. Is it suitable for permanent mount in a truck bed?

    Text says the unit is "... UN and DOT compliant", and that it is apparently intended for mounting on a trailer.
    Is it suitable for permanent mounting in the bed of a pick-up truck?

    1. I did. the ground clamp is long enough to run under the bed to find a suitable grounding spot.

    2. While the tank is intended to be mounted to a trailer it could be mounted to the bed of your pick up truck as long as it is grounded properly.

    1. Yes

  10. Are the welds strong enough to mount the tank vertically?

    1. The tank is not designed to be mounted vertically. The leg supports are not designed to support the fully loaded tank in a vertical position. In addition, given the positioning of the filler neck and drain plumbing, you would not be able to fully fill OR fully drain this tank in a vertical position.
