Does this unit have a thermostat?
No need for a wall mounted thermostat but does this unit have a thermostat that allows "set and forget" operation or are the controls more like "low, medium and high"??

The controls are a low, medium and high. You can set it on high and it will turn off and on to maintain a high temperature.

does this unit shut off if oxygen levels become too low?

No oxygen sensor. But all the air for combustion comes from outside of the building, not from the inside, and all the exhaust goes to the outside of the building so a low oxygen shut off is really not necessary or required for this type of design. That is why it is call a direct vent heater. Fresh air and exhaust are vented to outside for safety reasons. Thanks, RiK1 in New York

This unit being a vented heater does not include a low oxygen depletion sensor. It is recommended you install a carbon monoxide detector in your home near the appliance.

Does the venting keep humidity out of a sealed house when the heater is in use?
I want to install this in a 300 sq. ft. beach cottage that is closed up during the winter, and am concerned about moisture condensation in it. A ventless unit I bought did a good job of heating, but the amount of condensation in the cottage created a good amount of water on the floors (1/4" deep)

I bought this unit to replace a vent free unit that put huge amounts of moisture in the house. This unit works great and no water problems at all. Highly recommend this product.

A vent free heater can create condensation in a sealed home due to the way that the fuel is burned off. A direct vent unit will eliminate that issue.

Can this be used with lp gas?

how close to the intake vent pipe can insulation be installed
I posted this question on the 18,000 btu unit but it is not available,so i am reposting here

The intake hole is 6 1/4" and no insulation should be in that hole and a 2 x 4 header needs to installed above the hole to prevent any insulation from falling into the area.

Can it be vented to a chimney?

what is the diameter of required wall penetration to accomodate the external vent / make up air? Can I see a picture of the back of the unit?
I have installed 2 of the ventless NG heating units which I like but am getting complaints of the smell of these little units. j

The minimum diameter for the vent is 6 1/4". You can see the installation instructions with diagrams on our site in the manual that is listed there.
