I am replacing existing generator which powers our entire house & garage....so when generator is plugged in and I throw the existing transfer switch the generator power replaces the utility completely and power flows directly to our electrical panel. Is the EU6500is self grounded so I do not have to worry about having a separate bonded ground?
We had a Generac EP8000E that could not be used because of the Genrator's internal GF circut breaker...would "trip" the Generator's 30amp outlet...
The Honda EU6500is is not neutral-bonded to the frame (neutral and ground are NOT connected).

The Honda EU6500is is not neutral-bonded to the frame (neutral and ground are NOT connected). In many cases, this configuration will work just fine with a transfer switch, but you should always get a licensed electrician to oversee the installation, inspection, testing, etc. of any part of your home's electrical system, especially when installing a new generator.
If the capacity of your old system was greater than 6,500 watts (peak), this will exceed the maximum power of the EU6500is, and you'll see the red OVERLOAD lamp light up on the generator. The engine will continue to run, but all power will be disconnected. Just reduce the load by switching off some circuits, then restart the generator to try again.
The EU6500is does have a ground screw/lug if grounding the generator is required / necessary due to local codes or regulations.

No, this is not available in propane.
Helpful?
No propane-version from Honda direct, sorry. Honda does not certify this model for any fuel except regular unleaded gasoline. Be aware, some companies (not Honda) offer propane conversion kits, but installing one without getting the engine certified violates EPA regulations.
Also, propane burns much hotter than gasoline, and this can effect the exhaust valve and guide significantly. Any failures of any parts of the generator that are the result of a propane conversion are generally not covered under the factory warranty. I want to stress the warranty is not "voided" if you convert to propane, just any parts that fail because of the conversion won't be covered.

I am looking for a generator for my house and would prefer something I can roll out, plug and flip a switch during storms. Is this a good fit for this model?
This generator can be used for backup power up to 5500 running watts. It would have to be hooked up to a house using a transfer switch that would power the desired circuits and prevent generator power from going up the power line. A qualified electrician should be consulted to determine the generator size need, and the cost of installation.
Helpful?
Yes, the EU6500is can be directly wired into your electrical panel when used with a Transfer Switch. This is a special sub-panel that isolates the generator from utility power, and allows for a safe and easy way to switch between generator and utility power for selected circuits in your home. A licensed electrician can install one right next to your panel, and the two of you can select which circuits the generator will power. Hope this helps, -Robert@Honda.
