  1. Does this item require a subscription to a service?

    If yes, how much is the monthly fee?

    1. No fee required since it's not a "active/live" reporting device, but instead records/stores the trip and later when you retrieve the device you plug it into your PC to build the map/log of where it's been. Don't forget to turn it on when you mount it (push button).

  2. Location on/in vehicle for reception?

    I want to ensure good reception, so...
    Can the unit be placed in the engine/under hood?
    How about within glove compartment or under dash?
    Are there any locations on/in a vehicle you expect would be problematic to consistent reception?

    1. The Tracking Key/Tracking Key Pro uses GPS to find its location. In order to lock onto the location, the GPS unit must have a direct line of sight to 3 locations in the sky and these locations are changing constantly throughout the day. Make sure that there isn’t any metal completely blocking this upward / outward line of sight. GPS signals will go through plastic, glass, rubber, fiberglass, cloth material, or anything else not made of metal. Please see the Owner's Manual listed on the products page for detailed information on location placement of the product.

  3. 120 hrs of motion?

    How does it sense motion?
    What happens when it reaches 120hrs of data capture? - writes over oldest data? - stops recording?

    1. This GPS Tracking Key Pro is motion‐activated and will enter sleep mode after 2 minutes of inactivity.

      Once the flash memory reaches the hour limit the old data must be removed. If it is not removed the system will keep recording and previous data will be lost. If used in commercial vehicles it is recommended you do this every 1-2 weeks depending on the time spent driving.

    Can you give more information about the expected battery life is using quality AA batteries?

    1. This GPS Tracking Key Pro runs on just two (2) AA batteries (alkaline or lithium). The average battery life is 2 weeks. This will vary depending on the type of batteries as well as the time the product is on.
