  2. Power Requirements?

    1. The average battery life is 2 weeks with standard alkaline batteries and 2.5 weeks with lithium batteries. The battery life depends on hours driven per day. Above calculations are determined with 2 hours of driving per day.

      This cannot be charged by the vehicles USB port. It requires batteries to operate.

    2. I answered the first question myself just by reading the downloadable manual. The answer is 28 hours based on a usage rate of 2 hrs/day for 2 weeks.

  3. Is there a preferred location for getting GPS data on a vehicle?

    A GPS typically needs an open area to receive GPS signal; could the unit be placed under the engine hood or in the trunk?

    1. The 16 channel GPS receiver can be placed in, on, or under the vehicle with strong magnet mounting. The Tracking Key uses GPS to find its location. In order to lock onto the location, the GPS unit must have a direct line of sight to 3 locations in the sky and these locations are changing constantly throughout the day. Make sure that there isn’t any metal completely blocking this upward / outward line of sight. GPS signals will go through plastic, glass, rubber, fiberglass, cloth material, or anything else not made of metal. The more metal obstructions that are above and around the GPS sensor the longer it will take to lock onto the location.
      Make sure you choose a good location to place the unit or antenna for good results. An example of placement for the Tracking Key is the glove box but depending on the design of the vehicle, it may take longer to lock onto the location. If the glove box is very low inside the vehicle with a lot of obstructions, it may not be able to track. In this case you will have to find a better location to place the GPS unit.

    1. This GPS Tracking Key for Vehicles does not transmit live data. It requires a USB download. The Tracking key plugs right into your computer.

    What happens after it hits the 100 hr capacity ?

    And you don't have to take it out of the vehicle to
    down load it .?

    How often to you need to change the batteries in

    1. On this GPS Tracking Key for Vehicles after it reaches the 100 hour capacity the old data needs to be removed. If it is not removed the system will keep recording and previous data will be lost. If used in commercial vehicles it is recommended you do this every 1-2 weeks depending on the time spent driving.

      The product would be removed to download. It features a fast USB download. The Tracking key plugs right into your computer.

      use is outside the vehicle, we strongly recommend protecting the device using a waterproof case or
