Yes, it does charge the battery when the generator is running. The battery might lose some of its charge if the generator is stored for extended periods. During this time, it's wise to use a trickle charger to keep the battery charged. It's also a good idea to "exercise" the portable generator for about 10 minutes every few months to make sure it starts and will operate reliably in an emergency.

This generator should not be operated in an enclosed area or in inclement/wet weather due to possible safety hazards. The unit does have a summer/winter selector valve to assist in starting below 40 degrees.
