You have to assemble the wheels and levers on it. It comes in a wood box on a pallet. The tiller is very heavy and the tongue is short, so it is hard to lift and move around. Taking out of the crate and assembly will take about two hours.

Does it ship fully assembled?
Want to know how it ships, fully assembled, in 2 or 3 main pieces, etc? Also does it ship on a pallet? What is the shipping weight?

Yes, it ships mostly assembled. Just have to install the pulling arm. It comes in a crate, and on a pallet.

The Field Tuff Tow-Behind Tiller does require assembly. The main body is shipped intact. The engine needs to be mounted, the rear wheel carriage needs to be assembled and wheels mounted, and the front hitch needs to be assembled and attached. The entire unit ships by truck on a pallet and weighs 364 pounds total pallet weight.

What engine hp riding mower will work with this tiller?
-
stillwaiting3· 9 years ago
I have used a 250cc 4 wheeler, 24HP lawnmower and 25HP garden tractor and all have had no issues.

Not sure on minimum HP but I am using a 21 hp at idle when tilling. The forward rotating tines give some push so not much power is needed on the towing machine.

Which way do the tines spin?
Do the tines spin backward, pulling against what is pulling the tiller or do they spin forward pushing the machine pulling the tiller?
I have heard the best tiller to buy to pull behind rotates backward, which ends up the in the best broken up ground.
Thanks,
Cory

Hi Cory,
To answer your question, or to make it clear, backward rotating tines are best for the job of sod busting. For chopping up green manure crops, or to till a plot that has been tilled before, use forward rotating tines. I have both, and the backward rotating sets while I use to forward rotating one for almost all my work. Forward will give you a lot better seed bed. Both have their use. I hope this helps!Helpful?

They spin forward pushing. Dunno bout backward rotating tines. Forward rotating tines require less power from your towing machine.

The tines rotate forward as you are towing the unit.

Field Tuff Tow-Behind Tiller - 36in. Width, Model# ATV-3665
When you get the end of the garden to turn around and make the next pass how hard is it to raise the tiller tines so you do not tear up the yard.
-
stillwaiting3· 9 years ago
I also stop (most of the time) to disengage at the ends. I am a smaller woman and have only had difficulty if I am trying it when in a canted position.

I stop at the end of the row, disengage the pto and pull the lift lever as I start to go foward. The tines will drag breifly as you go foward but I found this helps it raise up.

This Field Tuff Tow-Behind Tiller has a lever to lower and raise the tiller tines. Once you get to the end of the garden you would lower the wheels with the lever to raise the tines. Once turned around you would then use the lever to raise the wheels, which in turn will lower the tines.

I see two adjusting levers, I imagine one is for depth but what is the other for?
-
hf123· 10 years ago
One is for the up and down depth and the other is to engage/disengage the tines

The one lever is for the height/depth adjustment, and the other one is an engagement lever for the belt drive.

field tuff tow behind tiller mod.atv 3665
how much assembly is there on item#41966 when shipped.
-
hf123· 10 years ago
just a couple wrenches to put the tow arm on. However, mine had been run at some point, and the fuel left in for an extended period of time, so I also needed all the tools to take the carburetor apart, clean, and reassemble.

Not a whole lot, attach the rear wheels, a couple of brackets, engine oil, gear oil, and fuel.
