Product Summary

Belt and two variable pitch pulleys work together as a clutch and variable transmission. Weatherproof system is completely mechanical and can be mounted in any position. Unique design allows automatic infinite variation and smooth shifting action between the systems high and low range in response to changing loads and travel conditions. Maximum 8 HP. NOTE: Briggs & Stratton changed the bolt pattern on some 8 HP engines, so you may need to make an adaptor to fit these converters to your application.

    i have a comet 30 series on my go kart i want to replace it all other specs are the same just was not sure how they were rated compared to my old torque converter

    2. The Torque converter kits Northern offers will work with your Comet 30 Series. The torque converter belt must be a 30 series and those are also available.

  3. How does it work?

    I am thinking about getting one of these for my go-kart.

    It has a 6 hp tecumse. What/how does this work?

  4. will a 420 chain fit

    1. The torque converter can be used with drive sprocket for a 420 chain. It does not come with a sprocket. Northern does not sell a sprocket for the 420 chain.

  5. I could use some more specs to know if this will replace the comet torque converter on my yerf dog go kart, I need the belt outside circumference, width and a comet model number of the belt and kit to compare with what I have would be nice also. Thanks

    1. The belt outside circumference is 27.03.” The top width of the belt is 3/4." One side of the belt is a 2-1/2 degree angle, while the other side is an 18 degree angle. The Comet part number of the kit and the belt is 203589A.

  6. Minimum lenght for shaft

    For this torque converter - is there a minimum shaft length support this ?

    My side shaft engine has a 3/4" shaft - but its only 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 long - seems like the converted needs 3+ " Am I correct

    1. The minimum shaft length to fit this converter would be 2 1/2". Your engine will fit fine.

  7. Does the torque converter have teeth for chain?

    In the description of the product it says 10 tooth? Does that mean when I get it I can just immediately hook up chain to it? In other words does it have a small sprocket on one of the pieces that allows you to just put on 40 or 41 pitch chain and go?

    1. This Comet Industries Torque Converter kit does not come with sprockets. Please see below recommendations.

  8. Can the unit be driven backwards, switch input and output?

    1. The output shaft will run CCW and the input shaft will run CW on the converter kit.
